This, no doubt, has been posted about before, but I'll add to it so admin can weigh whether it needs adjusting.

I've been here a few months and I really can't see the point of restrictions for new members. I mean, I've been wanting to PM some posters to get more info about them, or what they're posting about. But, as I'm newish, I don't have that privilege.

Do I need to post countless amounts of nonsense to increase my post count, and at the same time fill GF with clutter?

Why don't I just send comments to pertinent posters without PM them? I do. They are not always on the forum, though.

Currently, I'm about 70 posts. So that means I'd have to be here a year or more, to get what I would consider, just normal privileges at any other site. Do GF want to really take the risk of losing custom for the sake of this draconian rule?

Yes it’s called paying your dues.

So many just want the quick fix

You all want the information without doing your homework

You all want your bottom wiped after and during the tity suckling.

You all want to be experts by google swipe while your on the toilet.

poor poor you , “it’s going to take a year”if you believe that , than nothing here is going to help you. Really you can’t work out how to post 300 posts? Quickly? If you can’t work that one out then you have no hope working anything out from information from a private message, they know that , why would they waste time on you? We have a dipstick that’s been here 2 weeks that’s post 200 plus .

You can remedy your futile posts by getting an education, you can read any number of threads and try and learn something, then you become a thinking person, then you will gain intelligence, then you will be able to converse correctly rather than crying feed me feed me . When you develop intelligence you will come back to this thread you started and be embarrassed.

There are so many threads and posters you could have already learnt from by reading, reflecting and asking the right questions to get the answers you are struggling with. You have been here since May , 6 or so months and all you can come up with is a complaint about not being able to breast feed. Do your homework ask the right questions, create interesting dialogue and before you know it you have your 300 posts. And maybe then you’ll realise you don’t actually have to pm anyone because you have learnt and comprehended the information this forum has to offer you to develop something that works for you.

Take it as advice or as an insult it’s up to you.

    I don’t care.

There are so many fly by nighters that just blow through wanting wanting. With just a moment’s thought you would recognise the reason of needing 300 posts . Maybe you should not be so cheap and just go spend some more money on that quick fix shonky system because you never had any patience in the first place and you obviously haven’t developed any since.

Just some food for thought. If you are offended I don’t care. But I hope you take it as advice with the best intentions I can offer.
    Cheers

Well.... you're certainly entitled to an opinion PC. Which state in Oz do you reside? I live in Perth.

It's for two reasons, so that members don't join just to PM or spam other members, and to make sure a member contributes to their community before they obtain extra privileges from their community in order to incentivize participation.

No, because off-topic posts and flooding are against our rules.

Until you unlock the PM privileges, you can contact members directly via their profile by writing them a profile post.

We aren't a normal site and we have learned from the mistakes of other communities to run this one better.

Any member that we lose because they can't use private communications when they join is not the kind of member we would want to keep around anyway. We want members that join because they want to be an active part of this community and not members that are just out for themselves.

We don't recommend attempting to circumvent the unlock criteria by breaking our rules because then you will never be able to unlock your extra privileges, and you won't even be advised of this fact.

We don't want members that only ask what this community can do for them, we want members that also ask themselves what they can do for this community.

There are a lot of threads that are sitting empty and unanswered (particularly in the Sports Betting and Poker Forums), so we recommend answering those as a starting point if you wish to increase your post count legitimately.

Yes, and I have been actively participating for some time now. Do I need to do it for a year or more, to be considered for full membership? I am not against earning my bones. I don't think I should be doing it endlessly, that's all.

It's not time-based. It's based on post count. How long that takes is up to you, but in our previous post we pointed you in the direction of where you can make additional legitimate posts to increase your post count further.

    300 posts are not endless.

Remember, in the meantime you can still contact members directly via Profile Posts. PM's are just an extra privilege you have to earn the hard way but which isn't required at all in order to participate in the community or to communicate with members directly.

Thanks for your reply. I don't agree with you about 300 posts not being endless. I think you should get a wider source of opinion on this. I have been actively engaging the last couple of months. How far has it got me? I don't think I should be devoting more time than what I already do, to meet excessive requirements. And that's no cop out.

I'll check up about profile posts.

We would agree with you if members had no other way to contact members directly. However, that's not the case since all members from the moment they register have the ability to contact other members directly via Profile Posts.

It's very easy to use, simply click on a username you wish to contact directly, then click on the "Profile Page" link, then just write your message in the text field where it says "Write something..." to send them a direct message. Keep in mind that Profile Posts are public and our rules still apply.

Well, you can easily drop that to 100 ..it will serve the purpose of dis-enticing scammers anyway, even 75.
Takes ages to get to there anyway.

& hack is neither circumvention nor break.
300 posts you asked for .. without any conditions .. & you got them.

Why would someone invest in out-of-interest topics just to get in touch with those who are in the topics of interest, I don't see the point.

I can't find anywhere to post on member's profile pages. I've tried numerous times to do what you're suggesting.

Yes, members have the option to disable the receiving of both Profile Posts and PMs via their Privacy settings:

    https://www.gamblingforums.com/account/privacy

You can ask such members to re-enable those features via that link above so that you can contact them directly.

Nope. Says: "This member limits who may view this member's profile." Or something similar. Can't message you through your profile.
