When I look at the horse racing thread, its seems there isone time posts and no back and forth. There are many different poster names. When I wouls answer in the past there would be no response.

Are these people actually posting on this site?

Check if it says "guest" under their username in their post. If it does, then those are posts from other sites that we syndicate here to seed discussions among our members. This is a temporary measure until we pick up steam. You can read an interesting thread about it here.

thanks for the response. The question is...........is this method working?

If I respond to a person on horse racing board, and I know there is a 99 percent chance that the person I am replying to doesnt read it.....after a while I would give up on that board.

I have responded in the past and received no response, and now I know why.

THe question I have to ask myself, why waste my time responding to someone that will not see my response.

I have been on this site for a while now, and didnt know about the syndicated guest entries. I am guessing others dont know or didnt know.

I personally dont see it is working. i think people have figured (by looking at all the zeros for replies) that there is something sketchy about all the posts.
So when someone like me starts a new thread as I did yesterday, it just gets lost amid all the syndicated" threads that people are now ignoring.

I dont have an alternative suggestion for you. But I dont see that syndicated posts to be working as you intend. And it may be hindering others when they want to post but see all the "zero replies"....
The same with sports betting section.

Well, to be honest, it was only supposed to be a short-term measure until we picked up steam, but it's taking longer to pick up steam than we anticipated. Although the OP won't reply to you on a syndicated post, nothing is keeping other members here from engaging with you in the discussion you reply to. That was the idea, but for that to work, folks need to participate. It's the old chicken-or-egg problem, to have an active forum, folks need to participate, but folks won't participate until the forum is active. So we're trying to break through that by 1) syndicating posts to add content and spark discussions, and 2) incentivizing posting with the $5,000 Giveaway. We experimented with turning off the syndicated posts at one point but it actually lowered activity. The idea is that as soon as the forums pick up steam, we immediately and permanently disable the syndicated posts. But if we do that now, then the forum will just sit empty with the only activity being in the lounge because our 1,000+ members are waiting for "others" to make the forums active before jumping in. There is no easy solution, but we're in it for the long-haul as we truly believe that once we hit critical mass -- and with all the unique benefits our community offers -- we'll take-off.

All that being said, if our members would like for us to test disabling the syndicated posts, we can try that again and see how it goes.

the thing is I dont see responses being answered by others outside of the OP. Thats why I say that I dont see it working.
As it stands now, I wouldnt post on the sports betting board. However If its disabled, I would promise to posts a thread a day,4-5 days a week...to try to get real involvement. Its up to you.
right now, the sports betting threads are just some guy posting picks with no real comments on how to bet sports, or what to look for, or even what stats were used to come to the conclusion to make a pick. I think its just sports fans cheering for their team.
I would post at least something more thought out.....and invite response....since I am looking to learn from my mistakes as much as the next guy.

As it stands now, in the sports thread...there is nothing to learn or debate.
the same for the horse racing board....but I dont have alot of expertise on that topic, as far as daily betting.

Done. We've disabled the syndicated posts in the Sports Betting Forum. We always prefer posts from ours members than from external sources.

We look forward to your posts and appreciate your efforts to improve our new community.

ok...great lets see how that works...I will post, but it seems my real posts will get lost in a sea of syndicated posts that no one seems to be interested in.....is there a way to at least temporarily wipe those syndicated posts with all those zero replies out...so that real posts by real members can stand out, and not be cluttered???

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to do that as there is over 500 of them. That being said, all new threads you create will automatically appear at the top of that Forum as well as in the New/Unread Posts section on the right-side of the homepage. Since there won't be any more syndicated threads in that Forum, your threads will start to fill up that Forum and push them all down until they no longer appear on the first page, essentially clearing the up.
