i've always been fascinated with card counting but never actually gave it a shot. can any of the peeps who are into blackjack recommend a good book that teaches you how to count cards like a pro? i mean the real deal, nitty gritty type stuff, including how to avoid getting busted by the all-seeing and all-knowing casinos.

You asked for it: "Card Counting" E-Book by "John Patrick"

There you might find what you are looking for.

I am not a BJ player but the author John Patrick is the one who made me a disciplined roulette player.

For recreational purposes only. P;lay at your own risk.

The group of Professionals / Semi-Professionals that I played with back in the late 80's used 2 different counts -

For single and double deck games the preferred count was the Revere Point Count -
    ( 2 and 7 = +1 , 3 , 4, 5 and 6 = +2, 8 and 9 = 0, and all the 10 value cards and the Aces = -2 ) -

For multiple deck shoe games - 4, 6 and 8 deck games - the preferred count was the " Silver Fox / Green Fountain " count -
    ( 2 thru 7 = +1 , 8 = 0, 9, 10's and Aces = -1 )

Both counts were " balanced " counts - which means at the beginning and at the end of the pack your count should equal Zero -

    If you counted correctly.

The RPC is explained in a book authored by Lawrence Revere, and the Green Fountain / Silver Fox count is explained in a book by Koko Ita.

Amazon has a DVD -Beating Blackjack with Andy Bloch. He was a member of the MIT team

It is discounted to $8.36. It is very well made with professional production.

It has all you need to know to start out.

I would also put in a vote on Beating Blackjack with Andy Bloch. Excellent video that really gives the basics of card counting, how to properly size the bets (that is something that gets noted by dealers and pit bosses) and other great information.

Nothing by John Patrick should ever be purchased. The best current book IMHO is

"Blackjack Blueprint" by Rick Blaine. It's got a brand new edition available on Kindle.

    Everyone should read
    Professional Blackjack by Stanford Wong
    and
    Blackjack Attack by Don Schlesinger.

Just to give a background to Zengrifter. He came up with an amazingly good way to exploit one's edge at blackjack. He is an advantage-player that most blackjack experts respect.
