    the fears are misplaced.
FiRST,...the idea that the president can launch a nuclear bomb by pushing a button is science fiction. Doesnt he have to designate a country...and not only a country..but a specific city in a country? We have hundreds of nuclear warheads....do you think that they all get launched haphazardly throughout the world? I would think there would have to be Generals in the conversation as the why, where and when.

Secondly, I am guessing like you...but I strongly suspect that if SS is reduced....it will be given a "start" year" maybe 15 years ahead or more....so that people who saved for retirement, and accumulated just enough money to live life with their savings plus SS...arent unfairly caught off guard at a time in their life when they cant do anything about it.
So there will be some "grandfathered" people in the system. The ones already in SS and the ones nearly approaching SS.
All the rest will be put on notice as to what to expect...and to save accordingly over the next 15 plus years. And if this does happen....count on it AFTER his first 4 years......only a lameduck president would try this.

One thing that will help middle america is what Bill clinton called "the craziest thing" about obamacare...where middle class working people were suffering financial hardship through increased copays and deductibles in order to pay for the other folks enrolled that were a stress to the system.
That will be corrected...and this was a major reason that Trump won...as people voted their wallets.

Since illegals are big supporters and voters for democrats....finally something will be done to reduce their burdon on our schools and hospitals.

I believe he will re-negotiate trade deals .....and will try to cut back financial or free military aid to countries that can afford to pay their own way.

If he doesnt do the things above....he wont make it for a second term...because thats what the people who voted for him expect.
And if he does do those things........He will win a second term easily...because all boats rise with the tide.....democrat and republican boats.

And if he does all the above in an ill mannered way,...I dont care. I voted for results....not for manners.

I had a choice to vote for a well mannered corrupt, special interest entrenched 30 year politician with a resume of few accomplishments
or an ill mannered businessman, who is not entrenched in as many special interests....who ran on real issues that effect my wallet.
While his opponent ran constant commercials on what a buffoon her opponent is...and less on issues.

Its a no brainer..at least for me.

Seems incredible naive to believe that a pissed-off president can launch nukes with a simple push of a button.

Indeed, I don't know the exact procedure, but I'll bet a very large sum of money that it's not something that can be executed by one person.

    WHAT. THE. FUCK.

I'll make the following wager with anyone that believes Trump will launch nukes.

If he does- I'll eat BeachedWhales pussy and ass-fuck her.

If he does not- YOU eat BeachedWhales pussy, and ass-fuck her.

    Any takers?

There is something called 'without merit'. I have seen better explanations, but here is a short one if anyone cares to research it. A president cannot wake up with an erection and say, I am fucking nuking my x-wife's/or x-business partner's country this morning, etc., etc. The short explanation is under 'Protocol' of the attached Wiki. Thanks.

    Exactly correct.
But the libtards want their followers to believe that right next to the president's bed there's a red button and he hits it - nukes go everywhere. lol.
People watch too many movies - and sadly the Hollywood crowd (typically fellow libtards) believe everything they see.
So far the news has been amazing - spreading lies and nonsense they are coming up with every day to try to stop the guy before he's even in office. It's pure entertaining watching them panic.

Just calm down. Mr. Trump will not nuke anyone.. That`s the latest fear mongering of the libtards. Even Kim Jong will learn how to behave.

Cool it and enjoy your Thanks Giving Turkey.

The Libs better make an appointment with Dr. Friedman of 4077 MASH.

    Please HowMany....enough already.

Thank you LarryS for a respectful and reasonable response. I don't want to re-examine the choice that we all had. We all made our choice based on whatever was issues (or fears) were important to us. Trump won. I am not trying to go back and debate why anyone should have made different choices.

As per Social security: I posted in a different thread about Michael Korbey, who Trump picked last week to head his Social security reform team. This is not a cabinet position, so doesn't receive much coverage. Michael Korbey lead George W Bush's attempt to privatize social security back in 2001. Despite, republican control of congress, there was not enough support. Congressman Mike Pence from Indiana was the point man in the house of Reps. Korbey is a long time proponent of privatizing social security and lobbyist for the stock broker industry that would benefit from his plan.

Under Korbey's plan workers under the age of 50 would be given control of their social security contributions to invest in the stock market (benefit stock brokers). People already receiving social security or nearing social security age (over 50) would remain on the plan run by social security administration, with one major change. After the contributions from the younger working people are removed, there would not be enough funds remaining to pay current or near future recipients full benefits, so everyone would have to take a 30% cut. Michael Korbey calls this "the sacrifice current recipients must make to insure benefits for future generations". Understand that the average social security beneficiary receives about $1100 per month. For those that this is their only income and that is some 30 million that is pretty hard to live as is. How are they going to live after a 30% cut reducing averages payment to around $770? I just think our seniors and disabled that paid into the program deserve the benefits they were promised.

Now, back to nuclear missile launch. My understanding is that it is a two person thing. Presidential decision with the sec of defense approval also needed. That does not seem like adequate checks and balances to me. There was an ad during the election and yes it was a Hillary ad, featuring a retired nuclear missile commander in South Dakota. He stated that if the order comes from the president, he has no choice but to launch.

I would like to find out more about the exact protocol. Really, it is something along with the mental state of the president that I would rather not think about. o_O

Are you familiar with the term "nuclear football"? That is the term used for a briefcase and the man that carries that briefcase with the President at all times. Inside the briefcase are the nuclear codes and launch capabilities. There is only a very small window (minutes) to respond to an incoming attack, so the nuclear football and launch capability must be with the president at all times.

    Yep, too many movies :)
It's a process - a lot more than "I'm gonna nuke someone" and they open the "suitcase" and off they go.
If you believe that the "nuclear football" is a real thing - then congrats, the movies taught you well lol.
I'm sure it's effective though for the "bad guys" thinking that's how easy it is - that any moment....BOOM !
Sadly, it's not that way at all.

If a nuclear warhead is hurled toward the USA it wont be from far off where we have an hour to see it comming.
First we wouldnt really know if it was nuclear...until it hit....and then there is time to return fire and think things out.

My guess it going to be from a terroristorganization from off shore like on a ship. Or something assembled inside this country.

So all this talk about only having seconds to decide if we are sending a nuclear bomb somewhere is silly.

What is the extent and supposed effectiveness of our ABM systems?

Good enough to stop / survive a nuclear attack?

You would think that Montana would be a safe spot in a nuclear war. Nope. We got nukes all over the place here. It'll be one of the first places the Russians or Chinese will try to hit.

I have an observation -- about the posters here as opposed to the prez-elect.

The prez-elect just settled a $25 million lawsuit for fraud. This is news. Big news. Yet nary a mention. That tells you more about the posters here than about Mr. Trump. Why would nobody mention it? We have some history buffs among our stellar population of posters -- can anybody quote a similar event from our nation's past? If you can, even adjusted for inflation, please share it. I, for one, would like to know if anything similar has occurred in the past.

Nobody finds it disturbing that a guy who said he'd "never settle" has settled for $25 million? That he basically paid students who said he ripped them off? If the thing wasn't called "Trump University," I suppose there'd be some plausible denial. But it's hard when your name is on the lawsuit to say it was somebody's else's doing.

Yet this kind of thing isn't worthy of discussion by the fine posters assembled here. The sheer lack of mention betrays the alleged objectivity of the posters.

If 5% of the Soviet arsenal makes it through, that's enough for bye bye birdie. I have no idea of the current ABM capability, but as of 20 years ago, it wasn't likely to prevent that.

ditz, it just another popular shake down of corporations. It's part of the trend now of going after worthless degrees and certifications by suing the colleges and universities. You can look at all the companies, colleges, & universities all tied up in court for years dealing with this new deep pocket opportunity. I mean for example, you didn't know that your worthless credits were non-transferable when you went to the Art Institute or ITT Tech. It's just that the courts deciding to take these cases is kind of a crime too. I wonder if a university can do a reverse class action suit on the people that took these courses for being so stupid? Each dumbshit can pay a small settlement fee. Now that would be a kind of fairness that feels good.

Clearly, you have a reading comprehension issue. I'm not sure I used the words "Hillary Clinton" anywhere on these pages without the word "despise" in front of them. So I'm not sure how "I" lost, but I'm sure you'll educate me.

And I did order my "Grab 'Em by the Pussy" hoodies, so I'm good. If you want to buy me a spare, however, I'll send you my address.
