I'm planning a nice little vacation down to Yellowstone Park here soon. A nice little trip through the wilderness with some small town stops along the way. The first leg will be down to White Sulphur Springs. I'll be spending the night at the Spa Hotel & Hot Springs. There's nothing like having a 102 degree pool right outside the hotel room door. A nice soak before bedtime makes me sleep like a baby.

Then the next days drive will be down to the little town of Three Forks for lunch. Three Forks is where the Jefferson, Madison and Gallatin Rivers come together to form the Missouri River. Then the short drive down to Norris Hot Springs for another soak before driving the rest of the way to West Yellowstone.

I usually hang at the Buffalo Bar at West Yellowstone but this time I think I might try the Slippery Otter. I hear they have some great micro there. I'll be staying at the Brandin' Iron Inn. A nice little getaway for a few days. Hot tubs and cold beer.

The great thing about the West Yellowstone area is the wildlife viewing. Buffalo, deer, elk, moose, bear, wolf, waterfowl.

I MIGHT have been there before. I know I was just outside Yellowstone, inside Montana. Was the sort of town I completely expected. A "main street", mostly bbq and bars. Every transport some variation of an offroad vehicle. Country folk and cowboy hats. Shame I was too shitfaced to remember where I was.

Most gorgeous place I'd ever been. Your winters can fuck off, but that area is about heaven for me.

My son and I camped in Yellowstone for a week when he was about ten.

We stayed in the campgrounds; a moose walked through the campgrond one day.

We really enjoyed that trip, Yellowstone is a jewel.

En route home to PDX, we stopped at some city in Montana and had the absolute WORST Chinese food I ever ate.

Whatever he damn well pleased; have you ever seen one of those bad boys?

    They're huge!

The bears were gone from the campgrounds: the hazard for clueless tourists was bison, who hang around the roadways, look good in photos, but are known to trample.

There's a warning sign showing a tourist being charged by a bison: classic.

Moose have bad eyesight. During rut if you come up on a bull moose in the roadway, watch out. He might try to hump your vehicle. He thinks its a female moose.

Yep, you were definitely in West Yellowstone. It's the west entrance to the Park. West Yellowstone is one of the highest towns in the state at 7000 feet. The town holds the record for the coldest temperature of any town in Montana, minus 66 degrees.
