Having only 5 minutes in which to edit a post is rather annoying.

Having only 5 minutes in which to edit a post is a bit short. Any chance you can stretch that out to 20 minutes, or 24 hours?

I already asked this in the Founding Members area and it was explained why the Admin won't allow a longer time. I guess he' ll be along soon enough to explain. Don't get your hopes up is what Im saying.

Well, in anything, I tend to always like more time but on message boards some of the writing is so bad that more time won't actually help.

I'd like to see more time, maybe even a few hours. Sometimes you forget to add something and it works better in the original post (following a point you made for example), rather than in a subsequent post to add to the original thread.

Believe it or not, sometimes a quick reply to your original post (first hour or so), and someone points out you left something out, or made an incorrect statement. (some of us need to re-read more often), but we miss mistakes.

I think as long as it says the original post was edited, you're fine.

These are my thoughts too. Although Admin did make quite a salient point about re-writing history although Teach's point about the edited notice would negate that to a point.

First 15 minutes for full editing rights and later with post edited remark could indeed be helpful. Specially useful for those who start topics and discuss a subject at length.

    Hi Folks,

Thanks for your additional feedback on this matter.

Unfortunately, we have no intention of increasing the edit time as it's not inline with our vision.

As with all the decisions we make, there is always a reason behind them and we explain those reasons openly and transparently.

With regards to the edit time, it's not just about rewriting history as mentioned in an earlier thread. It's about maintaining a higher standard as well. When people know they have plenty of time to edit their messages as many times as they wish, they don't put as much thought into them. However, once they know that what they post is posted forever as-is with only 5 minutes to make corrections, they think more about what they are posting and how they are posting it and we want our members to have that forethought instead of posting impulsively knowing they can change it at any time.

We understand that this means a bit more effort on everyone's part before posting, but if that results in higher-quality and more professional posts, then it's worth it.

We've already seen this with some members who initially posted with typos or poor formatting, and then made much better posts since learning that they only have 5 minutes to edit.

Our Forum already auto-saves your posts as you type them, so we make it very easy for you to take your time to ensure you are writing professionally without fear of losing your work.

So it's about both not allowing folks to rewrite history and maintaining a higher standard.

It's been more than 5 minutes and even if it wasn't, or I had longer, I wouldn't be able to change my member status, so I ask you to change it from Founding Member to just member, as I really don't want to have status that is nothing more than a meaningless title (at this point).

I will contribute here when I can, I certainly hope you open the forum to everyone else before (WE), the membership, continue to eat ourselves over procedure (in debate), rather than discuss gaming as the forum was designed.

I realize I have 5 minutes to edit this post. Check back in 6 minutes, you won't see a change, no intention, it's how I feel at this point in time and I respect Admin's decision (although no compromise), as I hope he will respect mine.

This forum still has a chance to succeed, I hope changes occur, I hope everyone contributes, but I understand reluctance if you are not heard, without prejudice.

    I vote Yea!

After all the Wizardofvegas forum has no time limit on editing, and Mike recently sold that forum for over two million dollars. Wow!

The admin's decision has one merit, for sure. It will make members more responsible and indeed check writing foul language.
I checked the auto save feature, it is amazing. I wrote something and without posting restarted my laptop. My text was still intact.
Kudos to admin. I missed this features in most of the forums I participated in.

Concur, I see no problem with unlimited edit with timestamp. Most forums allow that.
