The craps “Put bet,” is it a Good or Bad bet? It depends.

The reason I’m bringing this up is because one of the Las Vegas local casinos in the Boyd group will not allow a player to make a bet on the Pass line after the point is established, and at one time they allowed it.

Now the casino handles it as a place bet, angled at the edge of the Pass line.

Sound confusing, hell yea. When have you ever heard of a casino saving players from themselves.

This particular casino now treats a bet made on the Pass line after the point is established as a “Put bet;” which is no longer acceptable.

YES, Put bets are not accepted in all casino’s.

In this particular casino it has 10 x times odds, and this is where the Put bet reduces the house edge when maximum odds are taken.

Normally Put bets are not a good deal for players, but when the free odds bet exceeds 5 x times … the house edge makes the Put bet a better bet.

Aside from the odds requirements … a bigger bankroll is almost a must to wither the swings.

Put bets were more popular when some casinos were allowing 100 x odds. Now days the 3-4-5 odds or double odds doesn’t cut it.

In today’s environment it is not a good bet . So I was surprised that this local Las Vegas casino recently decided that this type of line bet was not acceptable.

In retrospect I think this policy has been GOOD for some of its players.

More money is made with placing the come out number, because very few players are willing to take the maximum 10 x times odds with the late line bet.

This policy change keeps the novice player, the clueless, and the impatient player who wants to join the action right away from making a BAD decision.

But I doubt if it will catch on with the other casinos.

interesting THG and very good analysis !! .... I only use Put bets when my regular Place bets have hit table max during a roll. I have had no problem with Bellagio and Caesars accepting Put Bets in LV. ....... At LV Harrah's - one shift Pit Boss allowed it, another shift did not in the same week.

ANY bet with a house edge is NOT A GOOD BET! It doesn't matter if it's reduced or not. As long as it's -EV, it's NOT A GOOD BET!

Gotta be one of the most humble posts in the history of Harley. Making put bets when he is maxxed out with place bets at Caesars and Bellagio. Let that sink in for a second. Harley the new Whale in The Desert!

I’m not understanding your logic because the house always has the edge in craps. I don’t know of any craps bet that turns the house edge around and makes it positive for players. Yes, there are bad bets & good bets in all gambling.

However, when we’re taking about reducing the craps line bet 1.4 % house edge with odds, it does make it a better bet.

The more odds … the smaller the house edge. (to a certain point) Of course the other issue is a player should not over bet their bankroll.

There is a very good article “Everything you need to know about craps put bet,” that goes it to detail about Put bets that may shed some light on your perception of craps –EV … by John Grochowski dated Oct.30,2017.

Your post on another craps board insinuating that I am in cahoots or a sock puppet for Harley.

    You’re wrong!

Yes, I know Harley as well as ... other craps players. However, I write what I believe and don’t get into the BS.

I don’t attack players because they play a different style than I do. They write their piece … whether I believe them or not. That’s their opinion and I have my own.

So if it’s your intent to make me .. into something I'm not, you’re mistaken and if you’re attacking my integrity I have a big problem with that.

My Tinhorn Gambler handle and has been around for a long time, and I do not have another handle.

There is a lot bashing going around on these gambling internet sites and I’m not interested in getting into it … however, I will defend my reputation.

Presently I’m only writing on this Gambling site… so if you have a complaint or a disagreement on what I post … bring in here.

YES, I did misinterpret one of your remarks to my post. Thanks for clearing that up.
