8-10 minutes before post time. I
look at the win, place, show and
exacta payoffs. I think it helps
to show where all the money is going.

I used to buy the longer shot trifectas just for fun. It's often that a middle ranged claimer will run in the top three and blow up all the trifecta bets. But if you have one then you get a bigger longshot payoff.

I would buy five or six horses in any order to win the trifecta. Two or three would be the favorites and two or three would be middle runners. All that based on the toteboard.
