Casino Vicksburg seems in decline

I don't see closed casinos like Tunica, it is obvious they are not as busy as 10 years ago. I did get some attractive promos that suggests loss-leaders to get players in. Sunday morning and no craps tables open, yet:

• 10 AM - Riverwalk
• 2 PM - Baillys
• 5 PM - Riverview

Nap time is calling my name.

The casino I knew called "Rainbow" apparently went through several ownership changes and is now "Bally." Mostly empty parking lot, at 2 PM I asked, when the craps table opens. They said 'only on the weekend.' Sunday I found the table closed the two times I visited. Sad, not a happy place.

I've been using the Riverwalk and Waterview promo and remain pretty happy. Spotty, their craps table open near noon or later in the afternoon but at least open to midnight or a little later. Professional crews, they often have new craps crew members so be prepared to gently remind them. That I don't remember so many trainees a decade ago is more on me than them.

We're also seeing spotty implementation of craps automation which helps with handling odds payment. In particular, calculations to the cent versus to the dollar. Lower labor cost means smaller $5 or even $1 automated tables with longer hours. Not perfect but better than no craps.

Vicksburg feels more like "old town" professionalism. Lights and noise can hide a lot of poor practices as comfort and familiarity is more important to this 73 year old man. Crowding at the tables is not a problem and many players are on a first name basis with the crew.

The crews are professional, although there are occasionally new members who may require a gentle reminder. It's worth noting that my memory of there being fewer trainees a decade ago is probably more a reflection on me than on them.

Lower labor costs have led to the availability of smaller $5 or even $1 automated tables with extended operating hours. While not perfect, it is certainly an improvement over having no craps table at all.

Vicksburg exudes a more "old town" professionalism. The ambiance, lights, and noise help mask any shortcomings, and as a 73-year-old, I appreciate the comfort and familiarity. The tables are not overly crowded, and many players and the crew are on a first-name basis, creating a welcoming environment.
