Last weekend, Moraine was playing S17 Spanish 21 at an east coast casino. Maine was betting close to the table minimum, while a lady sitting next to him was betting a stack of black and green chips. She wanted to surrender her 15 vs. dealer's face card. Moraine jokingly offered to buy out her surrender first, then advised: "Just hit."

It turned out that she drew an ace, then a four, and became the only winning player against the dealer's 19. Too bad for Moraine, the lady didn't take up Moraine's offer to buy out her surrender, but she did offer Moraine a drink later on.

Lesson Learned: In S17 Spanish 21, 15 or 16 versus Dealer's 10 Has A Good Fighting Chance. Don't Surrender When You Can Still Hit.

    Caveat:
But if you count cards, you would do better by surrendering 15 vs. 10 at AceMT 2.5 True Count; and surrendering 16 vs. 10 at AceMT 1.5 True Count.
