The problem with your Constitution is that it is a bit like the bible, written a long long time ago and not totally relevant to the modern era, it needs to be a living document. There was a referendum a few years back in Ireland regarding something called the Lisbon Treaty, the public voted against it. The EU said, no you have to vote again, so they did and again voted No. The EU still wouldn't accept the No vote, and basically said, keep running the referendum until you give us the right answer. In the end the Irish government ratified the Treaty. If signing article 50 means the breakup of the United Kingdom, doing so much damage to the British economy that it sends us into serious recession, they simply will not accept or act upon the vote. The opposition Labour Party is in disarray, so would simply win the next election anyway.
