    DOVER DOWNS - TRIP REPORT - 7/12 - 7/13

Back 3 weeks ago after making our scouting trip to this casino, we had decided that it was worth coming back for our 2 night stay that we had booked. The drive time was 2 hours 15 minutes and we arrived there around 9:30. The first thing we did was get player cards. Between the new players cards and the hotel stay I got $25 in free slot play and between us we also got $60 in food comps.

Our room was on the 6th floor overlooking the track. Last time I was here I thought the track was for horse racing but it's not; it's for Nascar and other related racing.

The table games opened at 10 am as we learned on our last trip. I wasn't the first one at the craps table and I had to take SL1. Now the table is 14 feet long and is bouncy. On a 10 scale I rate the bounce as a 6. So before I even get the dice for my first hand the horde starts arriving. After the first player sevens out I get the dice. By now there are 7 or 8 players at the table. Here are my results:

    HAND #1 5, 6, 10, 11, 8, 7 out 6 throws

Now I haven't practiced any throwing neither underhand or parr from SL1 for 6 months. With the number of players there I colored in and left expecting to be able to go back there a few hours later.

After about a 2 hour wait almost all the players were gone and I was able to buy in at SR1.

    HAND #2 8, 6, 6, 8H pt, 7, 10H, 2, 6, 7 out 9 throws

My underhand throwing felt out of sync so for my next hand I decided to try parr.

    HAND #3 2, 2, 2, 8, 2, 7 out 6 throws

I was totally disgusted with myself and left the table after this. I was not comfortable at all with the 14 foot long table and didn't want to donate any more money to the casino. Now it was only a $5 table and I was only down $30 but I think I've learned over the years that you can't beat a dead horse. So for the rest of the day I wandered around playing some slots to kill time and watching my wife play blackjack, ultimate texas hold em and pai gow poker. She didn't get on a winning table and ended up losing around $200 for the day.

That evening in our room we were talking and I said that I didn't want to play craps here the following day. At first I suggested that we go to the Hollywood casino in Perryville Md. the following morning. We did a map quest and found that it was an hour drive and that we would have to go north on route 1 up to route 95 south to get there. Going up route 1 to 95 south is right near DelawarePark casino and the travel time was only 35 minutes. We decided to go the DelawarePark which we've been to maybe 3 previous times.

Yesterday morning after breakfast at IHOP we hit the road and arrived at DelawarePark by 8:30 am.

There was 1 craps table open, $10 minimum with 2 players already there but one of them was a SR1.

I had to cool my heels for maybe 45 minutes before I could get SR1 at the table. The player who was there had moved to straight out. Here are the results:

    HAND #1 9, 3, 9pt, 7, 5, 5pt, 7, 5, 9, 7out 2 pts, 2 co wins 10 throws

    HAND #2 8, 8pt, 8, 12, 8pt, 6, 9,10, 9 7 out 2 pts 10 throws

3 or 4 more players showed up and bought in so I left. A second table was opening around noon.

So the second table opened at noon and I was able to get SR1. By the time I got the dice there were 3 players at the table and before my hand ended there were 6 players there. By the way my hand was interrupted twice with players buying in. Here is my result:

    HAND #3 8,10, 9, 6, 10, 6, 4H, 5, 11, 9, 4H, 12, 11, 8pt, 9, 9pt, 5, 4H, 4H, 6, 4, 3, 10, 9, 6, 7out

    2 pts 26 throws

After this hand there were too many players at the table so I colored in up $150 and that was it for the day for craps for me.

The craps tables, 4 in total, at DelawarePark are all 12 feet long and are slightly bouncy. I rate the table bounce on a 10 scale at a 7 which in my mind is more than playable if your throw is soft enough.

To summarize our thoughts concerning this trip. Dover Downs although they were very good to us with comps is not attractive enough to us to get us to go there again. Between the table games not opening until 10 am and the not too desirable craps game there is no incentive for me to want to return there.

DelawarePark has better playing conditions for craps for me and the table games that Eva likes to play. Oh, she played in the poker room for about an hour.

We left the hotel at 5:30 this morning and arrived home at 7:30, so the trip was only 2 hours without traffic.

Next month we are making our annual road trip to Niagara Falls which includes the Fallsview casino there and also Seneca Allegheny casino in Salamanca, NY.

Appi, what exactly do you mean when you say that table is the "best?"

Why / how is it better than other tables?

    OK, got it.

I was hoping you weren't going Alan Mendelson on us.

You know, that bullshit he once spewed about one of the craps tables at Caesars being "cursed."

    appistapis,

I didn't get to check out the Salon Prive table at Fallsview until Saturday night around 8 PM. The bet minimum at this time was $50 and there were 3 players there all chicken feeders. The table is 12 feet long and the bounce is definitely dead. Despite not getting to play I would rate this table as a 10 on a 1 to 10 scale. The first thing I noticed is the corners. At first glance the corners appear to be square. They're not but the radius of the corners is the tightest I've ever seen anywhere. My only remaining question is the condition of the dice that they use. Are new dice put in play every 8 hours or do you see worn dice with rounded corners?

new dice everyday....they stay pretty sharp on that table as it doesn't get heavy use.
