Poker Is this a good hand? Or even a hand at all?

I hope you can help me. My son and I started arguing about a hand that I tried to play.

    I had 9, 10, J, K, Q -- and a mix of suits.

I think it's a Straight. He contends that it's nothing, that you need a sequence of numbers or matching suits. He is just learning Poker, and I haven't played in a long while.

So what is that hand? Is it a Straight? Or am I full of it?

    Source.

It's a straight, but he might also be right (in that it might be nothing).

With that texture of cards, it's also quite possible your opponent has "broadway" Ten - Ace, making it the nuts and destroying the 9-K straight.

You are right. K high straight!
    7 8 9 10 J
    Is J high straight etc

Flush: 5 cards of same suit beats a straight!

Note! A 5 or 10 is required to make straight.

    Hope this helps.
