I decided to make this thread for people - because along with roulette, I love working on computers.
Since all I hear (in the "real" world) are people's complaints about viruses and spyware, adware and their computers running slower and slower - I decided that a thread like this might help some people.
These are programs that will help - and they are all free.
You could search and find this info online but here we are and you're still reading.
If you have serious computer problems - or they are "serious" for you, follow these instructions.

    1) Download and install
    https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/
This should be done first, it will clear out almost all of the malware, virus, etc.

    2) To maintain this for the future you can run it manually - or you can also download
and install SuperAntiSpyware. Whichever you want to use for routine maintenance -you have to start them manually with the icon to run with the free versions.
    http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

    3) You need a good anti-virus that runs automatically in the background.
Next download and install AVG anti-virus.

    4) You should have a firewall running at all times (not the generic windows one)
These can be a little complicated to set up at first because you have to allow access
for programs that use the internet, but it will only ask you once for each.
    https://www.zonealarm.com/software/free-firewall/
ZoneAlarm also has a free antivirus and at one time offered a program that contained them
both together - if anyone wants this I can find a way to get it to you.
REMEMBER - you can't run 2 anti-virus programs at the same time, they will just fight
with one another. So decide on AVG (above) or ZA if you get it. Don't run them both
    together.

    5) You should do routine cleanups and registry error checks, (and system optimization
and disk error checks and defrags) - most of this can be done with CCleaner.
When you install it, you'll be given option as to what you want it to do.
You can always defrag using the Windows built-in one.

If you do these things, in this order (or close enough) you'll have a computer that runs
like it did when it was new. You'll thank me later lol.
    Cheers.

ps/ Doctors and computer repair people get the most questions from people, sometimes it's
nice to have some answers that you don't have to pay for.

I should add also - that if you want a low cost program that keeps your computer working
as it should... then the paid version of AVG PC cleanup is the best that I have tested.

Please note with #1 and #3 above - they will typically take a long time to run when you install them.
Sometimes hours - depending on your system and how bad off it is.
Plan for starting one at bedtime and the other at bedtime the next night. That way it won't
interfere too much with your schedule. If there are reboots involved - they typically happen
with the program and you won't have to click anywhere or monitor this.
