i don't think i've ever heard of "keno" unless i know it by some other name (it sounds like the name of some fighter in a video game!). can someone please fill me in? admin, maybe there should be a post in each forum explaining the basics of each game for those who are uninitiated. who knows, i might get into it, but i can't if i don't even know what it is.

Keno is like a Lottery, in a way. It's a grid of 80 number, from which 20 are selected in each game. To play, you can mark anywhere from 1 up to 10 numbers from the grid of 80. Whether you win - or how much you win - depends on how many numbers you marked, how much you wagered on the game, and how many of YOUR numbers were chosen (selected) by the game from the pool of available numbers. The odds can be long, but the wins are truly magnificent. Keno is my most favorite casino game. It is available in the "Live" casino version, where you can play "way" tickets, and well as on video slot machines, called "Video Keno". There are many different kinds. For the total scoop on Keno, check out my book: "Powerful Profits from Keno", available everywhere as an eBook. You can also contact me directly on this forum, or through my web site.

Hi Mike ~ There are several things that make Keno my favorite. In Live Keno, the game that plays like a lottery, you can play "way" tickets, and use several combinations of intertwined and integrated groups, with wheels and core numbers to multiply your wins and minimize the odds against you. You can also play split-rate tickets, with many different rates on multiple combinations. For example, you can play higher rates on combinations which are easier to hit, to make more "play money" as you go, and then lower the rates on the combinations which are harder to hit, but pay huge amounts when you do. It's a bit more complex than this, of course, but you get the gist. I show examples of this in my book "Powerful Profits from Keno", which has been recently re-released as an eBook, with current updates.

For Video Keno, some of these principles can also be implemented, such as split-rates, for example. However, Video Keno does not yet allow for the "true" way ticket options, as does the Live version of the game. I invented this new game about 25 years ago now, for Video Keno play, but so far have not sold it to anyone as yet. But Video Keno is good because it plays fast, and that is a benefit to you, as the player. The more events you can get played, the quicker you get to the hits. And in Video Keno, the hits come often, and in huge amounts. This is particularly true for Four Card Keno, and for Multi Card Keno. Again, all of this is explained in great detail in my book on Keno. It's my most popular book, and there are many Keno fans worldwide that have now read it, and have become players as well.

    Thanks for the post!

wow, you really know how to sell keno! i'm getting pumped about it just from reading this! the bunch of different combinations does make it sound very exciting.

wait, so you invented video keno? wow! so is video keno to keno what video poker is to poker? you basically play it on a screen against a computer?

thank you for all this info! i'm gonna have to check it out! you're obviously an authority on keno! i can't believe a few weeks ago i hadn't even heard of it and now i'm talking to one of the authorities on it! very cool!

A standup comic I once saw characterized Keno as "gambling for people who have lost the will to live". >:) "You fill out a card and give it to someone, and later they come back and tell you that you didn't win." Pretty funny.
    Cheers,

Hi Mike ~ Glad to know you're excited about Keno. Many people either don't know about it - as you mentioned you didn't - or they know about it but misunderstand the game. Or, they get bored by it, thinking that it's just one of those idiotic games where you push the button and nothing much happens. But that's a misconception, because if you pay attention you can learn how the machine performs, adapt, and play to win! And even if you just play for fun, at least you will last longer, lose less, and become more engaged in the game. And, up to a point, yes, the video version is similar to video poker, in-as-much as you are playing against the computer based on a finite fixed universe of available results.

For the "live" keno game, it is similar. But here you also have the social element. Many people like to sit in the Keno Lounge, drink free drinks, and play with friends, relatives, significant other, etc., while watching the game, spotting trends, and adapting "way" tickets. There's a lot more to this "boring" game than first meets the eye.

Hi Alan ~ A stand-up gambler once compared Keno to Baccarat, as the "poor man's Baccarat." Since the word "baccarat" means "zero" in both French and Italian, the analogy was quite funny. According to this purulent pundit prognosticator, players in either game win exactly "baccarat" - zero. In Australia, the game of Baccarat is known as "bugger-all", meaning "you get stuffed" - Australian for "You get FAQ'ed". Such FAQ's notwithstanding, Keno can, indeed, sometimes be like the poker game Omaha - where it is said that the hallways of casinos are populated by Omaha players muttering to themselves about "last card miracles", while searching for either a padded white room, or a beneficial "uncle George" to stake them to the next game.

Here's a true Keno story, from my book: "Powerful Profits from Keno": Many years ago, when Live Keno was the only option (no video games yet), there was this old man who went to the Keno lounge every day, sat in the same chair, and played all day, sometimes all night, and sometimes several days and nights in a row. He always played the same ticket, an 8-spot for the Jackpot, which, at that time, was $50,000, and the highest Keno Jackpot offered.

So one day the Keno crew in that casino noticed the man in his regular seat, sitting quietly, as he always did, and dozing off. Not unusual for him, since he often stayed there for several days and nights in a row, playing his ticket. But after a few days, they thought it was unusual that he sat there all this time, so quietly. So they went to investigate, and found that he had died several days ago, still sitting in his seat. When they took off his hat they saw he had a huge smile on his face. They were puzzled, but then looked more closely, and saw that in his right hand he had clutched his Keno ticket. After further investigation, it became apparent that a few days earlier he had finally hit his ticket, after all those years of playing, and won the $50,000 Jackpot. The shock was too much for him, it seemed, and he had a heart attack and died, clutching his winning ticket, but still had time to enjoy it. He died with a huge smile on his face, happy, and knowing that he finally beat the game. :)

if you don't mind me asking, what's the most you've won at keno? i want to understand how big the wins can be to see if it's worth trying.

i can definitely appreciate the social aspect of any game. that's why i find online poker a bit boring.

Mi Mike ~ My biggest single win in Video Keno was just a bit over $15,000. This was for a $1 bet on a Power Keno game. The hit was 9-out-of-10, with the Power Ball being the last trigger, which multiplied the jackpot. I think it was 4-times, but I don't remember. This was a long time ago now, on older machines which I basically figured out. I also hit these same machines for around $10,000 several times, until the casinos finally took them off the floor, and they have never been put back.

My most regular jackpots are all in various ranges. When I play 25-cent Video Keno, my wager is usually $2.50 per game, on Four Card Keno, or around $3.60 on Multi-Card Keno. On these games I hit jackpots of around $2,500 frequently, with others ranging from $500 to $1,000, also frequently. I also play lower denomination machines, from 1-penny, and 2-cent games, and sometimes 3-cent games on Multi-Card Keno. On these the most frequent jackpots I hit range from around $400 and up.

I also hit several similar jackpots on Live Keno, but I mostly confine my play to Video Keno. In the past few years I have not played as much as I used to, however, and when I do I now play more modestly. Video Keno takes time and patience. Sometimes many hours at the machine, even several days. And you've got to have the bankroll to match. At least $5,000 in your pocket, with another $15,000 available if you need it. Like with any gambling game, if you're going to play professionally, you must do it right, or not at all. For social playing, however, such "rules" don't generally apply. If you want to play for "social" or "entertainment" reasons, then the fun of it is more important than the wins of it. It's all relative, depending on who you are, and what you want out of the game. :)

Computerized Keno is always a worry, because there's no way to know for sure that the draws are fair. But in the USA, and in Nevada in particular, this would not be an issue, because of the stringent regulatory testing, verification, and compliance requirements. No American casino will jeopardize it's license to eek out just a few extra dollars from Keno players. Their gaming licenses are worth billions of dollars, so they make sure that everything is correct, and above suspicion.

However, in other countries, this may not be the same. I have no way of knowing how it is in Greece, but if there are complaints from players, maybe the games aren't the same as in the USA. Perhaps the house edge is greater. In Nevada, Live Keno games have a house edge of around 28% to about 32%, depending on the games. This varies, based on paybacks, rate cards, and so on. A huge edge for sure, but it can be overcome with way tickets.

For more information, see my book: "Powerful Profits from Keno". I have also provided an explanation of this issue there, in greater detail, and offered additional solutions, including those for video keno. The latest update to this is the eBook version, available everywhere.

Glad to know! Hope you like the book. That 40% for keno in Greece is murder! I hope no one plays it. At those odds, you're better off playing online - even though there are other issues there as well. But on some sites, like those I list on my web site www.MoreCasinoDeals.com, you might find a regulated and honest game.

If the odds were even close to being legitimate, it would be the perfect lazy game. As it is, better off lighting money on fire for kicks.
