Seems Ivey is suing Borgata regarding his 9.6 million win at baccarat that was deemed cheating while he read the card edges to gain an advantage.

For people that know casinos or worked at casinos , I have this question

Do casinos monitor winning players and make changes along the way?

Like if someone is winning at roulette will they change the dealer and maybe the ball

Or at craps will they change the stickman, or slow the game down or speed it up in order to change the rhythm of the shooter..or change all the dice at a sooner time than regularly scheduled.

In baccarat will they change decks outside of their regularly scheduled deck changes..meaning sooner..if a person is winning alot

Are these just wives tales..or assumptions we make..that the casino does these type things.

Someone suggested these things happen on a blog elsewhere, and a person who says he worked in a casino for years and years on the strip says nothing like the above goes on at all.
When it was suggested that if someone was doing their job, the cards would have been changed before Ivey had a chance to amass 9.6 million....he said cards are never changed out like that for reasons of big winners.

Anyone know if the above things I listed actually go on......or is it just gamblers paranoia....and the gentleman who claims to have worked at a casino on the strip was right.

Casinos will change dealers outside of the normal rotation if they think that the player is someone 'reading the dealer tells'. In the case of Phil Ivey, Borgata sort of let him have his way, and catered to who he is, that being a celebrity gambler and of course they wanted his money. In my view and understanding of the case, Borgata set themselves up for a loss and now are not wanting to pay out.

Trust me, you buy in to any table game with 5 grand, you will be treated very differently than if you bought in with 500.

Normally, a casino doesn't react to a lucky win, even if it is upto the table limits. Big winnings entice the winner as well as others to try their luck again and a gentle treatment to the winner is expected. Once casino feels that the winnings are too much to bear and that too has been achieved with cheating or any other skill that can suck money regularly, they get alert and in that case they can go to any extent to prevent that.
In a game of chance with nice house edge, casinos don't expect to lose too much, so easily. Wait for the verdict to come in the countersuit. I personally do not expect any relief to Phil. Let's see.

Ivey asked the dealer to lay the cards on the table a certain way "for luck".(so that he could see the full edges). Add to that he was systematically winning....and I ask....who is watching the shop?

Its like a jewelry store leaving the door wide open overnight with all the merchandise on the counter....and then the management complains that they were burglarized

I dont see how the casino won the case, as they had control over the situation and refused to exert it
