I get about 12-15 or so emails a day, which is not a lot when you consider how many casino gamblers there are in America (about 54 million!). I try as hard as I can to answer each and every one, although I am now refraining from responding to the Ploppy posts with their assaultive language and their pretense that they know things of which they don't. ("The Captain is not real. The Captain is not real." Even though Satch, the youngest member of the Captain's Crew, met hundreds of students when he taught in GTC. They asked him all sorts of questions. He answered.)

But one email stayed with me. It was a response to my latest article about website message boards. The individual asked if some other individuals have screwed up message boards by being constantly negative and attacking. He named names. (I won't.)

    It might be true.

I find myself thinking that the two sites on which I post tend to be dominated by certain folks; those who harangue about the same tired things over and over until other posters get sick of them and move away. I also realize that for (some reason or another) some sites won't allow me to post. (One inter-nut recently stated that those sites are the elite group.)

So is this e-mailer right? Are some individuals making it annoying and then prohibitive to bother to post? Is that why many message boards are dominated by and subsequently ruined by certain posters?

I keep thinking I should go back to my pattern of not bothering with any of this stuff? Am I right?

Even though I am a new member to this forum, can I be frank, Frank? Don't worry, I won't call you Shirley. Some people want to bloviate about ridiculous and petty things. Others feel a need to ridicule. Even more like to be critical just to be critical. Good content is what is going to drive internet traffic. If visitors and members continue to see the same petty crap rehashed over and over, or continued flame wars, they will move on to a site with better content. Sometimes it's like reading little kids' posts on a video gamers forum. Life is too short for some of us.
