Okay, I doubt most readers of this forum who are inveterate or advantage blackjack players will dispute this: The blackjack games are fading into poor rules, crummy cuts and poor comps.

On my almost-weeklong trip to Atlantic City I saw a huge number of carnival games: Three-Card Poker, Four-Card Poker, Mississippi Poker, mini-baccarat and all-those-other-damn poker games. Caesars et al had so many it was hard to find the blackjack pits. This is the brave new world.

I remember a quarter century ago (my word, a quarter century!) and except for a few tables here and there, blackjack dominated the pits. Craps was big too. Now? Nope. The casino terrain is littered with games that give the house monumental edges and often truly fast (fast! fast! fast!) speeds.

I am getting like my late father's generation: Things were better back when.

All the carnival games give the house a bigger advantage-you just said it. That's the reason why. They have it all. They won't give an inch. Proven by everything else you just said. Its their way of not just staying alive but making it an unprofitable casino visit for anyone who might have an advantage. Harrah's properties are in danger of dying. Other AC casinos have shuttered. The business isn't thriving in the gaming sector. I don't think (I admit I haven't been home to NJ in years) the nightlife scene is hopping in AC so the only draw is gaming. They only want losers to visit. Period.

Frank I only play craps, but some times will try a hand or two at BJ for the hell of it. Sure there are poor rules, crummy cuts and poor comps.

But who is to blame, could it be the card counters that brag about all of the money they are winning from playing BJ? Could it be all of the writers that have made their living by writing books on how to beat the game?

Now here is the big one.....Could it be the corporations that have tried to put a casino on everybody's block in every state? If casino X cost $xxxxxxx a month to run and the stupid Corp. that runs it just put two or three new casinos in the bordering states, how do you and everybody think they are still going to make the same amount of money at casino X?

Don't you think that they are going to try anything they can to keep up their profits, by changes rules or anything else they can do to make sure that when you walk out of their casino, you walk with none of their money, but you left them a major deposit in their bank?

Now days these casinos CEO's are corporations' own worst enemies, they are only interested in getting their bonuses at the end of the year, and the hell with how well the new casinos will do. Or worst yet, how the old ones will fare!

The next time you are in AC just count the carnival games in the different pits, they don't want BJ or any other game a patron might win on! Then all you have to do is look at the name change that Caesars did. Now it's Caesars Entertainment, it doesn't have anything in it's name that has to do with gambling.

When you walk through those doors you are now being entertained, you are not gambling and neither is the casino part of that corporation!

Maybe giant and rich blackjack teams have hurt this or that casino...a little for a little while. The average counter is less than a drop in the bucket. Blackjack needs to make more and more money to satisfy the bean counters so rotten rules and jackpot editions to the game have been incorporated. And, of course, all those carnival games have come along to empty players' pockets.

LOL. Scan, I don't know where you live, but if you ever get to Virginia City, Nevada, there is a Faro table with a long and bloody history. I don't know what will come up in a Google search of suicide table...but hmmmm. Let me go look. Yup-its Faro. Its the first entry in the search. Amazing TRUE story.
the rest of Virginia City is awesome, too! a must see for any gambler.

Nah, nothing we do can stop those who want to play from playing bad games. It's the way of the world.

The deep message in this thread is that Blackjack continues to decline as the casinos want faster games with a greater rake. I see this as the casinos now more openly cheating the public. This means war. The punter may now cheat as much as he can get away with. Why the hell not? The casinos are showing the way.
