CRAPS REPORT: Atlantic City

Just got back from almost-a-week stay in Atlantic City. Jerry “Stickman” and I checked out the blackjack games for Henry Tamburin’s Blackjack Insider Newsletter. I’ll have that report in the May issue with the input of about a half dozen of my own reporters. I am not expecting to see much of a difference between the upcoming blackjack report and the ones of the last several years.

Atlantic City’s blackjack is for all intents and purposes “ho-hum.”

But craps is a different story. There are some really good games in AC so here we go.

Marina District:

Borgata: AC’s #1 casino. Tables are long (at least 14’) and bouncy as all heck with the dice often flying off them. That is annoying for all players. Mostly $10 / $15 minimums during the week. Heavy action when I was there. Not a game I would recommend. When I visited it was 5X odds. There was talk of going to 10X on some tables. Might have already happened.

Harrah’s: Tables were 12’ during a quick mid-week visit. The whole Harrah’s company is on my “lousy list” after what they did to me in Tunica. Game was 5X odds but that was a walk-fast-through the casino visit. I didn’t even want to go. Tables seemed slightly bouncy too.

Golden Nugget: Great place to play craps. Tables are 12’ and like the good, old-time tables with normal bounce. Crews, especially in the early, early morning when Jerry “Stickman” and I play are just wonderful. We don’t play much in the afternoon or evening. One table at 10X odds; the rest are 5X. Tables are quite crowded most days.

The Boardwalk:

So sad. So many casinos are gone: ACH, Playboy Club (long ago), Trump Plaza (known as the Trump Dump), Claridge (where I first met the Captain and the Arm), Sands (an empty lot), Showboat and Revel.

Tropicana: Good games, all 5X odds with okay tables in terms of bounce. Most of the tables are 14’ but a few are 12’ and those are the ones at which you will probably want to play. This casino has been crowded every time I’ve gone to it. This place is also not afraid of big action. Good place to play those 12’ tables.

Caesars: Nice casino with decent tables that are somewhat high for anyone under 5’9” or somewhat fat. Tables are 12’ with a good, meaning normal, bounce. 5X odds.

Bally’s: The two tables opened when Stickman and I were there were both 10X odds and probably tied for the best tables in AC in terms of bounce (great old-time feel to them). They both had a handful of people at them. We played here and some suits came down to watch us. We won; we left. No problems whatsoever. I recommend this casino.

Resorts: The one table open was 12’ but it was packed. Casino had a good crowd. The table seemed slightly bouncy. 5X odds.

Taj Mahal: The place was empty at 3 pm. Not a good sign. Tables are quite bouncy with 5X odds. Not a good place for craps. This used to be a great casino for craps. No more.

Many of you know from our email correspondences that I am not going to casinos 100-130 days a year since 2012. My wife the Beautiful AP and I are traveling quite a lot (often with Stickman and his wife the Sainted Tres) to places around the world and in America (Stickman and I are going to all the baseball stadiums!). So these reports will be infrequent and/or if there are new results of which to inform you.

You might want to double check your table sizes next time you get back to AC -

Borgata has 2 craps pits which for a " \ / " - Each pit has 6 tables - In each pit there are 2 12' Tables and 2 14'Tables -

The two tables at the " \ " and the two tables at the " / " pits - closest to where they meet - are the 4 12' tables -
These tables are usually at a premium ( $25 ) level - when they are open !

Harrah's also has two dice pits - one either side of the cashier's cage - The pit " South " of the Cashier's cage has 4 14' tables -
The craps pit " West " of the cashier's cage has 2 14' tables and 2 12' tables - These 12' tables are open ONLY Friday and Sat nights -
At 8 PM and 9 PM respectively. Additionally, there is an additional 12'table in the " High Roller Area " which is south of the " West " pit.

Tropicana: Good games, all 5X odds with okay tables in terms of bounce. Most of the tables are 14’ but a few are 12’ and those are the ones at which you will probably want to play. Tropicana also has 2 craps pits - BUT - ALL 14' tables - one pit was closed for renovations when we left in November.

Caesar's is THE place to play in AC - MANY 12' tables with a nice bounce !

Bally's craps pit is " I _ I " shaped - The 2 " I " are 12' tables and the " _ " is a 14- table. ALL tables have a nice bounce . There is also another
12' or shorter table in the high limit area just north of the main floor.

Resorts: The one table open was 12’ but it was packed. Casino had a good crowd. The table seemed slightly bouncy. 5X odds.

Resorts has 3 tables - 2 on the main floor and one in the high roller area - 1 table on the main floor has the ATS bet - nice 12' tables.
I found them to have a nice bounce.

Taj Mahal: The place was empty at 3 pm. Not a good sign. Tables are quite bouncy with 5X odds. Not a good place for craps. This used to be a great casino for craps. No more.

The Taj has 12' tables - BUT - they are approx. 2" taller than the rest of the AC tables - makes it difficult to be able to throw well - unless one happens to be extremely tall - ALSO - the last time I was there - a year or so ago - they had micro fiber layouts. A place to avoid!

Just got back from a trip to borgata. MGM bought them so the craps odds are down to 3,4,5 from 5 across. Very crowded and filled with cocky people who mostly want to drink talk rather than shoot the dice. Slow tables but lots of tables open so I bounced around.

Ended up going to ballys. Did well on the 10x tables there but also crowded and filled with degenerates. Someone puked on a table and they had to shut down one of the 3 slowing the action.

Curious if they still have the table in the high roller room and what the minimum is in that. I'm on a journey to find a consistently empty 10x table.
