“A euphemism is a polite expression used in place of words or phrases that otherwise might be considered harsh or unpleasant to hear”

Seems to me ‘method’ has become a euphemism for system/strategy

Let’s break it down: If you use a set of rules or guidelines to play a negative expectation game, then it is a mechanical system. Now I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. Renaming it a method doesn’t change what it is

    “I play methods not systems”.

"Red herring is a kind of fallacy that is an irrelevant topic introduced in an argument to divert the attention of listeners or readers from the original issue. In literature, this fallacy is often used in detective or suspense novels to mislead readers or characters, or to induce them to make false conclusions."

"A straw man is a common form of argument and is an informal fallacy based on giving the impression of refuting an opponent's argument, while actually refuting an argument that was not presented by that opponent."

You idiots do realize that method is a direct synonym for “system”

I mean I understand you and mr J would have issues with this.

Whats funny about this thread RG, it has little to do with system vs. method. Its out of hatred towards each other, thats the MEANING of the thread. Do I care? No.

Euphemisms are meant to make people feel better

    Specifically weak minded people.

If it does not have rules, like exact triggers to make decisions from, but has guidelines like "don't bet on black when a streak of reds is occurring," then yes, the guideline could be defined by some as a rule. Therein lies the argument at its core. First you must defend or categorize what a rule is.

I don’t have to do anything

You can call it a system. A method. A strategy. Doesn’t matter.

Our bets all deal with the same house edge.

    No they don't.

"This is in line with the theory of probability as developed by Kolmogorov and von Mises. A frequentist does parametric inference using just the likelihood function. A Bayesian takes that and multiplies to by a prior and normalizes it to get the posterior distribution that he uses for inference."

This "method" of starting a thread and then complaining about it is systematic of needing victim stature. As a rule, most people that start threads actually have a discussion in mind, but this one has a self fulfilling purpose perhaps. Attention is the only reason for this thread.

You did. You didn't bother in explaining the point of this thread.
"Difference between a method and a system. Theater of the absurd"

Perhaps you are the definition of the absurd? I thought it was a real discussion. My mistake.
