Poker Hands played

Now to my question I consider myself a tag player....but I'm worried that my percentage of hands played in my tournaments is too low..i.e.

8% to a high of 18% and the 18% comes rarely...the thing is I believe my staring cards dealt are just to poor to justify opening or calling with them..

my range is pretty good I think (lol) my showdown % is usually very high at the end of a tourney.. i.e. 65% to 85%

so again can someone tell am I too tight or my range needs to open?
