HARRINGTON CASINO, DEL. - AUGUST 2016 - TRIP REPORT

After returning from our Dover Downs trip about a month ago, I found out that there is another casino, Harrington, about 20 miles further south. If I had researched more thoroughly and found out about it we would have visited here on the last trip. So we just returned from a 2 day road trip to check out Harrington. This casino is affiliated with a horse racing track and also the Delaware state fairgrounds. I guess you're supposed to know it's there because there are no bill boards or signs along Route 13 south announcing the casino's presence. My Garmin GPS could not find this casino, I had to program in the race track to get there.

We left our house on Tuesday the 23rd at 6:15 in the morning and arrived at the casino at 8:45. The table games there are not 24/7 but open at 9 am Monday through Friday. This casino has only 30 or 32 table games with 3 being craps. One of the 3 craps tables is crap less but that table is only open on weekends. Well right at 9 the craps table opened but I was a little lackadaisical and an old timer beat me to my preferred shooting position of SR1. I had to wait about 30 to 45 minutes before he left and I took this position.

The craps tables are all 12 feet long with a dark purple colored layout made of micro fiber. The maximum odds were 10X although I didn't write it down. Both tables that I played at over the 2 days were somewhat bouncy. My bounce rating would be a 7 on a 1 to 10 scale. In my opinion they are just barely playable. I'm sure if I played here on a regular basis my rating would go up but not significantly. The whole time there the craps minimum was $5. Would I go back here again? NO. The main reason is that Eva could not win on any table game she tried other than Spanish 21 where she won $100. She tried roulette, blackjack, Texas hold em, 4 card poker, heads up hold em and 3 card poker. I found the slot machines to be very tight with a few small wins over the 2 days but overall a $100 loser at slots for me.

Back to craps. Here are my throwing results:

    Day #1

    MORNING

    11 throws 1 point

9 throws 2 points 2 come out wins

    EVENING

9 throws 1 come out win

    11 throws 2 points

    Day #2

    MORNING

    15 throws 2 points

    6 throws 1 point

10 throws 1 point 2 come out wins

Pit boss gave me grief over my hand coming in front of the stickman too far when throwing. The previous day my throwing was fine and nobody said a word.

    6 throws

I colored in and left after this.

    AFTERNOON

Because Eva wasn't winning at Harrington after lunch we made the 25 minute drive to Dover Downs casino. She finally found a table, heads up Texas hold em and walked away a $300 winner.

Despite the craps tables at Dover Downs being horrible I had to give it a try. One table was open with a $10 minimum. By the way Dover Downs just a few days ago instituted 24/7 table games. Before this they would open at 10 am Monday through Friday. All I wanted to do was try 2 hands at this lousy table so I bought in for $40.

    14 throws 2 points

    15 throws 1 point

I doubled my buy in, was happy, colored in and left.

    EVENING - Back at Harrington

After dinner around 6:30 we went back to the casino but the 1 open craps table had 8 players so I couldn't play. Eva didn't want to make any more donations here so we went back to the Holiday Inn. Because we had players cards, the room rate was $89 per night a significant savings compared to the regular room rate.

Thursday morning at 7:30 we left Harrington to head home. We planned a stop at DelawarePark casino since it is only a few miles off our route.

The DelawarePark craps tables are OK with a bounce rating, my scale of 7.5 most certainly playable.

    The table min. was $10

    7 throws 2 points

    7 throws 1 point

    15 throws

The final tally. In 2.5 days I played 13 hands at craps and made 15 points. My average hand length was 10.38 throws per hand. This performance was just OK, I expected better. Considering that I was playing at one totally unfamiliar table, one terrible table and one table that I've only played on 3 times in 8 years, I guess that I can't be too disappointed.

No more road trips for a while. My next major craps adventure will be on a cruise ship. We are going on the MSC Divina for 7 nights out of Miami on October 8th. We've never been on an MSC ship so we are really looking forward to this cruise. I've seen a picture of the craps table on this ship and it is 12 feet long. I've sought out information concerning the craps playing conditions on this ship on the Cruise Critic Message Board to no avail. No responses after 350+ reads.
