By betting one number we could get the maximum profit, it's the best possible payout but when our selection delays is frustrating.
What if we could hedge our straight up number in exchange with some profit?
There is a bet selection which we lose only by 2 numbers instead of 36 (in case we bet straight up) and we win we get paid 18 units for every hit, while when one of the other two numbers make us lose 18 units.

So there are 18 VS 18 units, win or lose, 34 numbers are neutral because they provide no profit neither loss.
Furthermore we may choose which numbers not to bet and of course the number which is going to make us winners.

Also there is a variation in which we may win 1 unit per spin as long as the 2 numbers will not hit in addition to 36 units profit when our selected number hits, this comes with an increased cost for every time one of the 2 unselected numbers appears, 71 units for every loss.
