Lounge If you flew in a plane from the east coast to the west coast (US) what direction would you be going?

    I get to answer that one. If you are standing on earth without falling down then you are traveling east at around 1,000 miles per hour, just for the sake of argument. If you are in a plane flying west at 600 mph then you are still traveling east at 400mph. Now that's relative to TurboGenius who is sitting far outside the ozone layer in space.

    Yes, An SR-71 Mack 3 spy plane will actually be flying west at more than 1,000 miles per hour because its ground speed is well above 2,000 mph.

    True. You are only going East a little slower than the earth is spinning depending on the speed of the plane.
