Buddies are great, if they have what you need. Be very selective, everyone has an opinion, as do I, but that does not make me or them the right person to advise you.

You should be able to bluntly honest, exchange thoughts and ideas, explore options, provide more tools for your toolchest.

I find "Validation" the key resource offered by an experienced trainer. They can quickly identify leaks or holes in your game and offer concrete alternates that you can choose to ignore, try, or switch too (checking results much later).

If no one is able to communicate with you, you sometimes change a correct line of thinking when you did not have to do that at all, it wasn't a bad decision, it was a nasty result that occurred and we can't eliminate them all, but we strive to reduce the severity of them.

Shadowing someone is an excellent way to get to know someone, establish a rapport, and find out if their game can elevate your game. HOWEVER, sometimes, teaching someone who has less skills than you, makes you reemphasize the core qualities of good play and hence you start to do better yourself. (Listen to yourself, mostly good advice).
