Make sure you set your bankroll at a reasonable level. Also keep in mind that poker is a game you will never really master, i.e. there is always something new to learn, whether it’s a new way of playing, a new card combo or a way of assessing odds. Those who claim to have an unbeatable poker strategy are the ones who end up losing a lot of money quickly.

The choice of poker strategy you rely on also depends on the type of poker you play because certain types of poker will have more (or less) desired card combos than other types. For example, if you play Texas Hold'em, then having a high pair as a start will prove very good, whether you can expand the hand already, or if the board is not good to you, there is always a chance of winning because of the highest hand rules for Texas Hold ' em.

Only after a failure, if the failure is against any high pair you may have then you are advised to fold immediately regardless of the level of the bet, the odds are not in your favor. Too many people hold hands half well and then assume that they can have an easy victory and it is this feeling of complacency that is detrimental to them.
