I am troubled about a topic and I wanted to share my thoughts with you and ask for yours on the matter.
The incident that sparked my wondering was the following:
Last night I stopped following in Twitter a person who I used to admire. I mean that the man is a living poker legend, one of the few that brought respect to the game and the players. Having started with a shotgun in the trunk, he ended in big halls with worldwide television covering his games. He even had a hole card combination named after him. Yep, that's right. I pushed the "UNFOLLOW" button on @TexDolly, aka Doyle Brunson.
I still respect him as a player but only that. My admiration is lost. By the way I respect TonyG as a player too, although I wouldn't even say hello to him, were he my neighbour. In my mind, accomplished proffessionals, athletes, artists, scientists and every one that is good at what he or she does, deserves my respect for that. Admiration is a whole different story.
Now, about the living myth. A while ago he was negative about an athlete's life choice to undergo a sex-change-operation. Narrow-minded? Old school? I don't know, I just didn't like a star (in our society, any kind of celebrity's oppinions outweigh the ones of common, non-famous people-but that's a whole different topic) making negative statements for another, not on account of a bad behaviour or deed, but for an absolutely personal choice. More personal than that doesn't exist. I felt sad but I tried to find excuses which are plenty. Age, social concepts related to previous role models etc.
Strike number 2 was last night. @TexDolly re-tweeted a twit in support of Netaniahu, as the Israeli elections are on. That I couldn't handle. I mean supporting a mass murderer, who ordered the bombing of houses, schools and hospitals under the pretext of defending his country was too much for me. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a bleeding wound in our territory since 1947 with lots of victims on both sides and from the neighbouring countries, and the only hope of reaching an honorable end and stopping the crimes is raising the awareness of the American public on the subject, as it is the U.S. support towards the Israeli Government the only thing that allows it to commit these crimes unpunished. Geopolitics are the issue there (another huge topic). So every American's opinion is much more significant than that of any other citizen of the world. Especially the ones of people that are respected and admired. During the summer, while the slaughter was still going on, Daniel Negreanu made statements supporting Israel's actions too, showing lack of information and after some discussion, he agreed to look more closely into the matter.

To keep it short, how do you people feel about the great poker players. Are you fans of any in particular? Do their attitudes or political and social views influence your feelings?
