I originally posted this in the slots forum, but it seems to be lightly populated. I'm trying to do a little research for an article I'm writing which I will post on this forum, hopefully to help everyone. This problem for me is that video poker progressive pros, such as my self, live in a different universe. We have a hard time understanding recreational gamblers and what drives them. To better tailor the article to anyone that isn't exactly like me I need insight.

Example: The first time someone asked me, "how do you know when to leave a casino?" I froze and couldn't answer. In seventeen years I had never thought about it once. You leave when your shift ends or the progressive falls...duh. Only after being asked this, did I know this was something people actually worried about.

    ----------------------------SLOTS-----------------

I know how I pick which slot machines are playable. (Playable = over 100% return)

It usually involves a visit to the G2E gaming machine manufacturers convention to get as many par sheets as possible, or paying off a friendly tech to give me the chip-set parameters for a machine in which I'm interested.

Next a thousand pull frequency study tells me which chip-set the casino is using on that particular machine, so I can make an informed decision.

Or the even more laborious task of trying to figure out when the casino "keys their machines" to manually write down their results as paper backup...requiring me to be seated at the machine to see the stats when they do this once a month--mandated by the gaming commission.

    ------------------------------------------------

That's how I do it! How does everyone else do it??? The MORE answers the better!
