I see that there were 43 members, as follows:

    "Total: 43 (members: 3, guests: 11, robots: 29)"

My question: why not bar known robots?

    What are they doing here?

Robots (also known as "Bots") in this context refers to Search Engines crawlers, such as the Googlebot. They are an important part of any Forum and web ecosystem because they index all the new content that is created so that they show up in relevant future searches. For example, if you google "robots gamblingforums", this thread now pops up as the #1 result thanks to the Googlebot constantly crawling our site and indexing the new content such as this thread. The advantage of having our site constantly indexed by search bots is that it brings more humans to the site as we appear in more and more relevant searches that people are making.
