He's driving Route 66 from east to west. I have done most of it several times both directions east and west.

Why don't you all contribute some favorite stops?

I'll start with the El Rancho hotel in Gallup, NM. Was the camping point for many film crews and famous actors/directors in the first half of the 20th century as they filmed westerns. Beautiful place, now owned by Native Americans.

Stop in and have lunch. Take a brief walk around the inside of the lobby, which is fabulous.

Actually staying there is a little pricey for the area, but lunch is not.

Thank you for thinking of me and my trip redietz. The route 66 part of our trip (trip home) doesn't start for about 2 weeks, so there is still time if anyone has any suggestions that I can add. The route 66 portion of our trip starts in Chicago with a trip to see the Cubs in Wrigley, where I have never been. After that, we have no real agenda or time table. Just a slow crawl home, probably at least 2 weeks seeing all the touristy, cheezy thing. I do have a growing list, including a lot of 60's era eateries famous for various different unhealthy dishes. ;)

The Blue Whale is on my list, but I don't know why. I see absolutely no appeal to a big plaster shaped whale. Maybe seeing it will change my opinion. El Rancho Hotel was already on my list, as it was featured in one of those Ghost adventure shows as supposedly haunted.

Anyway, I will try to check back in a couple weeks just in case there are any suggestions that I am not familiar with.
