In the opening scene Ace Rothstein has just walked out of a building and is headed to his car. Do you know where this scene was filmed?

Wow -- this is tough. I'm going to take a wild guess and say the north entrance of the Frontier?

This is the scene where the car blows up, right? I was in town the day after it happened. It made a big splash in the paper -- either front page or front page of a section. That actually happened at Tony Roma's, right?

No, this sene wasn't filmed at the Frontier. The Frank Rosenthal car bombing in 1982 happened in the parking lot of Tony Roma's on East Sahara. Casino was filmed in the winter of 1994. They filmed the car bombing at a different location and I know why. Here, I'll give another clue. Here is a screenshot of the same scene but from a different angle. Rothstein is now entering his car.

    South entrance of the Stardust?

    This is great stuff.

The Stardust eventually had its own Tony Roma's, but it wasn't where Rosenthal had his car detonate. That, as Mickey said, was on Sahara.

KJ, you paying attention to the old guys here?

No, it's not the Stardust either. Here is the reason why I think they filmed the car bombing at this particular location. This was the sign above the exit/entrance that DeNiro used to get to the parking lot where his vehicle was. Ace Rothstein 3.jpg

Redietz, it looks you are the only one who has cared to make a guess. In the first picture DeNiro is exiting the south entrance to Main Street Station. In the 2nd picture you can see the California Club across the street.

MSS was shuttered in the winter of 1994 when the movie was filmed.

Boz, one of the keys to the puzzle is the brick columns with the lamps on top of them in the 2nd picture. You can see these brick columns to the right of DeNiro as he is getting into the car. The next time you are in Vegas walk out of the south entrance of MSS and take a look at those brick columns.

I will. Still looks like the street outside the Fremont from memory heading back to Ogden. Now you have me thinking. Great stuff as always Mick!

Usually half hammered leaving MSS after a few cheap VIPA's and Happy Hour eats. By the way Mick, I know you haven't been in Vegas in a few but Triple 7 is now only one if a few brewpubs on Fremont. The DT world has changed, yet in some ways it's still the same. You should take a break and visit sometime. You would both be pissed, yet respect (I think) what they are doing there.

Boz, now that you bring it up I remember the similarities in the exteriors of the California Club and the Fremont. They were both owned by Boyd.

Yea, Fremont looks the same except for the doors. But you would be lost outside the old Lady Luck (Downtown Grand). Pizza rock and Hogs and Heffers. Odds are you would love H&H for what it is....a tourist trap that is a great place to get slammed if money isn't a concern. #whatthefuckhappenedtomyvegas?

Boz, one more thing. The Tony Roma sign in the third picture was not a Scorsese special effect. There actually a Tony Roma in MSS before they closed. The sign was still there when they filmed the movie.

I have more screenshots of Vegas locations in the movie. And, Boz I will try to address your other concerns tomorrow.

I 'm at the bar. And you all know what that means. I'll try not to give you all the drunken Mickey Crimm blast when I get home after closing time. Lol!

It looked like Main Street (I loved Main Street when it first opened -- for a few months), but I did not know they filmed at that location. I also did not remember a Tony Roma's there, so I was lost.

I have a friend who charts and grades pizzas from all over the world. One of the Pizza Rock pizzas is in his top 20. He has records of 2500, so that's something.

There is still a Tony Roma at Fremont, probably part of my mixup. Try not to be hard if the drinks keep flowing, but I'm a big boy, I can take it. And not in the ass if your angry Mick later, lol.

Yea Tony knows his shit there. Over 20 different pies from all over the country. He is the real deal. A huge asset to the area and also in Green Valley Ranch.

Boz, if you see me takiing a road trip then you better tell me the name of your bar and what town it is located in. Maybe I will come over there and drink with you boys. And don't sweat it, Boz. I will be a complete gentleman while I am there. You can email me at [email protected]. I'm not saying I will go to your bar.

But I will consider it. I have to know where its at before I can consider going to it. Boz, I give you my honer that I will not fuck with any asshole that drinks in your bar. I will take them all prisoners if I ever have the privelege
