IIRC, he was in his "Jimmy Olson, cub reporter" mode.

The discussion centered around probabilities, and he said he saw a random shooter roll 18 yo's in a row: he said it to support his claim that anything can and will happen, no matter how improbable.

When challenged, he fell into the "I'm a reporter, only reporting what I saw" routine; when people still called "Bullshit!" he packed up his dog and pony show and left for more fertile pastures, a new land where his bovine excrement will yield tastier fruit.
