You don't have to read anything blackhole. Who is forcing you to visit this site or read anything? But if you choose to visit any gambling forum, you should expect to see players, both AP's and recreational sharing their gambling related experiences. If it is people sharing their experiences as a baseball player or franchisee you would like to read, I suggest you visit a forum related to those topics.

KewlJ lives just off the strip, in the middle of everything, which is where you were 30 years ago when you were writing for Gaming Today and cruising the strip every day. Rob lived in Vegas? I wasn't aware of that. Before my time no doubt. 1990's? early 2000s?. I knew he wrote for Gaming Today for FREE. Not that it matters, but I see no evidence, nor mention of Rob living in Vegas. Of the half dozen or so places it says Rob has lived, Las Vegas isn't listed.

The closest would be Pahrump, NV, where he resides in a pull-behind camper for a period. A period just after he says he won 3 million playing the DU Bug. No record of property owned in Nevada. The last rental property I see was the place in Pheonix that Rob was evicted from.

Just makes me wonder where in Vegas he lived if it was sort of off the record. One of the weekly type places like Siegle suites or Budget suites? No lease there so there would be no record. Or did he live in a camper at one of the camper/trailer parks out on Boulder Highway, near Sam's town among other spots? Or maybe worse yet, one of the flea bag motels downtown on Fremont that are all boarded up and fenced off now. I can just imagine the degenerate gambling community in those places.

How about it Rob? Want to shed any light, just for fun and curiosity?

 

I never talked too much about this, although it has sort of become common knowledge now, thanks to the upstanding members of this forum.

You pay for location! My brother and I own our condo, but we pay a Condo fee or HOA fee of almost $800 a month. Of course that does include some expenses like trash, water and sewer that you would pay for separately otherwise. Cable and internet is not included, but the community has a special deal with Cox where we get the premium cable and internet package for $40 a month. This package is normally almost $300, so that offsets some of the cost. Plus, there are many amenities similar to a high end hotel include. One of them is car service. There are two Escalades available 24/7 to take residents wherever they want to go. Oddly almost no one uses this service. A few to take them to the airport, not much else. I have started using this service regularly. 4-5 times a week. Probably as much as anybody in the community. Kind of nice. Kind of spoiled.

It wasn't really my choice to move here. After my partner passed away, I just couldn't stay in the house we bought together. And it wasn't the money like the idiots here claim. I basically paid for the house. But he picked out and decorated and I just couldn't stay there. So when my brother and I decided to move and we were looking a couple houses, and mostly condo, mostly the lower garden type condos, we looked here and My brother just loved this place, and the idea of living so close to the action. And he still does. I had already lived a place a block off strip, so I had sort of done that. But I went along and have to admit, this place has really grown on me in our 5 years here.

 

Rob was semi-connected back in the day. He could live wherever he wanted.

Chuck and Eileen DiRocco didn't start as simply squeaky clean publishers. They brought simulcasting to the race books, as I recall. They had to sell the idea to the Gaming Commission. Around the time I graduated from high school, DiRocco started publishing a paper that eventually became Gaming Today. I remember an office on Industrial, but he may have been downtown before that.

There's no guarantee that a search of Rob Argentino is going to list exactly where he lived at the time, Las Vegas or otherwise. I'm telling you, as you often say, that it wasn't the way things worked. I know people who were upper management of casinos who operated under AKAs for years. Not only wouldn't you find records of them if you looked under their 2023 names, you wouldn't find anything at all unless you knew specifically where to look under what AKA.

How can you live in LV all these years and think things operate by some Marquess of Queensbury rules?

Almost forgot, DiRocco was originally from just outside Philly, so if any city and state has a long venerable tradition of connectivity and AKAs, it's Philly and PA.

 

So where do you think Rob lived? and what time period are we talking? We surely won't get an honest answer from him. AND if he was so "connected", how did he end up living in a trailer park in Pahrump and just after the time he claims he won 3 million playing the DU bug?

People know and have confirmed where I live. You know who one of the first was? I am not going to name him, but an AP on VCT. I don't think he meant to do so maliciously, but after I moved he mentioned how he was fairly easily able to match the sale of a single family home in Summerlin, to the condo just off the strip. My name was on the home and the same name appeared on the condo within the same time frame. I think if anything he was trying to warn me to be more careful.

So these forums continue to be about two groups. People and players that know and talk about real things and a small but vocal group of trolls and haters, led by Rob, that just talk bullshit and lies. I guess that is entertaining in a way, but I really don't get or see it. It is just boring and even sad to see people so detached from reality, or just so angry and bitter they behave in this manor.

No I get it MrV. DiRocco....Italian American. All that I am aware of is that these people allowed Rob To write a column in their free gambling rag. And they didn't pay him for that. Are we now suggesting that Rob, shook down drycleaners, and restaurants for protection money on the side?

As for the Mobs influence today. I think it is mostly gone. Especially the corporate run big place on the strip and throughout Vegas. I don't know that this is actually better, but it is different. They may be some holdover mob influence in some of the smaller out of way places. And there are some old Mob types still working in the industry.

Here is an example: There was a pit Boss at El Cortez that I became a little bit friendly with. I think he has retired now, as I haven't seen him in a couple years since covid ended. I am not going to say his first name, and I don't even know his last name, but am sure it was an Italian name. He looked and acted like a mobster. Could have played one on TV. lol. Once we started talking, he told me he was from New Jersey but had been in vegas for 30 years. His demeanor was he tried to be intimidating. But eventually he and I got through that. He was actually the pit guy that gave me that very polite backoff one day in which he said "That's enough for today". Basically saying you are welcome to come back tomorrow or next week.

Also my first day of playing after my second heart surgery, was downtown at El Cortez among other places. I don't remember the exact wording, but he welcomed me back and said something like "let's just take it slow and easy and not do too much damage today ok"? That confirmed two things to me. 1) that he read or had heard of my medical situation and knew who I was and 2) he was really a sweetheart under that gruff exterior. A sheep in wolf's clothing.

So I still think there are some left-over characters like that, but probably fewer with each passing year.

 

Oh and there is THIS mob influence still around.

The half dozen or so bodies that have "popped" up in Lake Mead over the last few years as the lake level dropped. Several in drums.

And every once in a while, at new construction sites on the outskirts, human remains will turn up. These are areas that 30-40 years ago, was out in the middle of the desert. Just the areas they used to dispose of people.

 

There's those multiple back to back posts again kew. That shows a lack of understanding, a low degree of comprehension, and absolutely zero self confidence that you're getting your lies across.

Example: the dump you live in. If it weren't such a germ-infested cluttered low life hangout, you'd be blabbing it's address right now.
