You are clamming im going off topic? If IIRC I never started posting in this thread until the Mod's put my post in here. There has been much conversation that's off topic here, so it also needs to be moved you should ask others to start a thread as well and ask the mods to take off all unrelated posts. If I did start a thread about all of the positive things (because there are a million more positive things about WIZARD OF VEGAS FORUMS and Mike and the Mods then there are negative) I'm sure others would go off topic and debate them saying negative things and it would go off topic. So i will just make sure I add something negative about WOV each time. I dont like the many color options I couldn't find the perfect color tone.

You are off topic yourself, how is it you believe WOV is dying from Mikes having eating challenges that seems to bring more people to the site?

yes just walk up to the manager and say that I wold like to video a contest of nugget eating here on your property, there may be some vomiting and or gagging. There may be some folks cheering, and encourageing the contestant to vomit, in case they bet against him..
Some customers may be turned off by the visuals AND VOCALS...but thats just the good old AMERICAN WAY.
We will then post it on YOUTUBE to memorialize the event, for people to see what can happen if you eat too many greasy nuggets...and as a way to promote ME, the woo. When people view it on the internet, they may get a negative opinion of your product, but I cant control that. Other customers might avoid your store in the future if they find this event to be an unexpected negative experience that they didnt count on viewing. And if vomiting occurs we will try to make it to the bathroom....but please have a mop and bucket available for clean up. If vomiting or gagging occurs outside, we will try to bury our heads in the garbage can, but passers-by may negatively view your establishment from that visual. So what do you think.....good deal...right?

    this is easy

because of the hypocrisy.... People get punished for not respecting"mikes place:" yet he doesnt respect other peoples "places"
if you view him as a self serving hypocrite,as a socially backward egomaniac,.....then this event is just one example.

He wants to be "respected"....yet shows little respect for others.

it seems every place he goes is "mikes place"..he can do as he pleases. Fuck the people in the background..

They would assume he was drunk or something, it's LV people do that all the time and worst. The people back there (if any)are usually homeless or undesirable people. I'm not even sure if that's their property there are homeless people going though the trash around that area all the time he just blended in. You love debating anyone and everyone its your life it seems as if that's all you do.

Perhaps you should take issue with Morgan Spurlock I don't think MCdonalds appreciated that, I'm sure that costs them Millions and made him millions.

Personally I wound't and dont care what McDonald's thinks or says. Hell if anyone avoided McDonald or eating another bite of their nuggets because of the contests or videos I would say that's a GOOD THING.

One could make that claim, as you have. Sure. But it's a BIT different. Like, if a new member comes in and does wrong, they don't always get the hammer. Sometimes they are warned, sometimes they're supplied the rules with an admonishment, sometimes they are asked to leave (susp) for a short while. This is similar to McD's. New people come in, do what they want, and if McD's has a problem, the crew is asked to leave / stop filming / take it outside. If the WoV crew is asked to leave and decided to come right back and do it again, then hell yeah, that's hypocritical to the extreme. I haven't seen that happen. What I have seen was McD's asking to cease the filming inside, which they did, and they are now moving locations for the future. Their "business" was not welcome there, they were informed the "rules", so they're taking their business elsewhere. Sounds pretty good to me.

But I get what your real point is. Someone who demands respect AT ALL TIMES should be looking to bestow respect AT ALL TIMES. Your position that an unannounced and spontaneous meet up of a large group who are going to cause a commotion and possible vomiting at an eatery as being disrespectful is not an extreme view. Perfectly logical. And if someone who puts a premium on respect for all at all times conducted such an event, sure, that's hypocrisy. But what does that say, what does it mean?

I, too, hate hypocrisy, and often evaluate my own views and stances to ensure harmony. I can tell by reading you for the last 5 years that you take the care to tend to your own. But don't we both, despite our efforts, occasionally fall into hypocrisy anyways? I know members of WoV have stuck me and caused me to think, as they revealed a hypocrisy in mine own beliefs that I had never seen before. I've seen you claim you treat people as they treat you and only speak foul when spoken to foul, yet called me names once upon a time. Perfection isn't attainable, but we do a pretty good job in striving for it anyways. That, to me, is the difference between hypocrisy (as in, an instance) and being a hypocrite (one who engages in it regularly). I could say Mike has engaged the former. I've seen nothing that would make me accuse him of being the latter.

No problem. Curiosity is great; morbid maybe moreso =)

I am aware, probably more than most, of what I've done and what I now face. Some laugh when I say it, but I absolutely should be in a helmet at all times. Not because of how I live my life, but just because I have done so much damage that my threshold for it now is frighteningly low. Even something as simple as shaking my head back and forth like a dog shaking off water is enough to fire up PCS like symptoms such as a headache, dizziness, confusion, or mood swings. It's kind of scary. And even normal contact I receive through competition affects my head in ways that it shouldn't. I was momentarily stunned when I wrecked my race car, and my head touched not a thing. Just the quick snapping motion was enough to do it. Same goes for hockey. A solid shot received in the shoulder or chest often causes a result as if I took it straight to the head, including confusion and ever so slight short term memory loss. My injuries are probably my #1 reason for carrying concealed; if even a slap from a petite woman could knock me out, I can't be defending myself in hand to hand anymore.

So I have made changes. Other than a 4 day stint last week due to blown out brakes in my truck, I don't ride motorcycle anymore. I still play hockey, but no longer play power forward, nor do I smash around like a cannonball anymore. Offensive football is now about possession, no longer about killing myself for that extra yard. Defense is about control, no longer the big hit. I never race without a helmet, never motocross without a helmet. Motocross is about fluidity and rhythm, no longer about nailing 70+' doubles and triples. I'll never stop; competition and sport is who I am. But I've absolutely made changes, and will continue to do so as I learn of more. Visual and aural phantoms have a way of getting one's attention, and I'm not losing my vast arsenal of weaponry to dementia =p

Not sure why you posted this in defense. I wasn't attacking, just making a point. If money makes a difference to you, that's fine. If it's the fact that this is their livelihood, then OK. Whatever aspect makes it fine with you is your business, and I've no desire to influence your feelings. I guess I was just pointing out that those are YOUR feelings, and mine happen to differ.

I mean, I feel that it doesn't matter if you have the whole of Cedars-Sinai in your corner, or if you just have Steve, the guy who waxes the lanes at the local bowling alley. If you receive a TBI, no one can do anything for you. The proper medics would be vastly superior at diagnosing one so that you don't continue to play, but other than that, the medics and Steve both offer the same assistance - nothing. You can only rest your head and hope you come out the other side with most of yourself intact.

Your views (or the ones I guess I'm assigning to you based on my interpretation of your statements) that this stuff shouldn't be engaged in isn't a bad view. I have literally killed myself for sport. Torn muscles, tendons, and ligaments, broken bones, internal bleeding, and damn, my fucking head. I am not the me who was; the guy you're talking to is what's left over. And for what? There may be a handful of people who remember and say "Fuck, man, you were the toughest linebacker / shortstop / centerfielder / defender / etc I ever saw / played against / coached against". And that does feel good. But is a compliment once every 4 years or so from a random nobody worth it? It's completely fucking stupid, the whole lot of it. And so often the "glory" I chase is glory that only I will ever know about. Motocross, especially, so many of my "triumphs" have come in a pit where I was the only one for miles. No video, no report, no audience, it was just me. Why in all of the fucks would I do that? Why would anyone?

I dunno. But it turns me on. It's what gives ME the spice of life. Give me an offer of a million American dollars of tax free cash or the option to finish off my "pointless" amateur ice hockey career, and I'd choose hockey before you even inhaled after asking the question. And when I feel this way about mine, I have to allow others theirs. Whether it's the completely retarded activity of betting money on the results of paper cards, or running in a 26.2 mile circle for no fucking reason whatsoever, or eating 70 hotdogs just to say you did it, I have to say have at it. I think what your doing is the epitome of retardation, but I'll be nonetheless happy to see you succeed at it.

of course not..If a place wants to control the event, maybe have a section to the side to shield paying customers, or put up signs so that paying customers are fore-warned and they want to use the event as an advertising play to bring attention to their establishment....its their place...their rules....their use of advertising dollars,,,,their gamble if something goes wrong........

The "customer" analogy in regard to WoV: does it pass scrutiny?

    Let's see.

Who is the "customer" of WoV?

Certainly not those who post there, as there is no cost to them to do so: they read for free, they post for free, there is no vendor/customer relationship.

As for those who view but do not post: lurkers pay nothing as well, so a "customer" cannot, by logical definition, be any of the above groups.

So then, by default, the only possible "customer," i.e. someone who pays the site's owner, would be advertisers.

Advertisers can remove their ads on a whim; it they feel they aren't getting enough "bang for the buck," they'll leave.

They haven't left: what does that tell you?

It tells me they are satisfied, that they get enough clicks / new business.

It also tells me that the owner of WoV is satisfied with this arrangement as well.

The pieces of the puzzle which are being overlooked here are two-fold:

    First, the important folks are the lurkers, the looky-loo's who check out the site yet don't post; some of them (and damned few if any regular posters) click the banner ads, which may result in income to the owner of WoV;

Second, WoV is NOT why the buyer ponied up 2.3 million (the Wiz's tin cup now runneth over): they wanted WoO, which has a helluva lot more traffic than does WoV.

WoV just happened to come along for the ride.

WoV and WOO do not sell advertising. They are playing the affiliate ballgame.

Here is the reason you see all those banner ads on WOO and WoV.

    Mr V

I will crystallize this for you

Lets say I own a park...and you have to go through counting turnstyles to get in. ITS free but the only thing is that I get money from advertisers that put up billboards in my park . THe more people that buy the products on the billboard, the more money I get. And the more people that come into my park the more chance they buy the product and the more money i make.( we assume the purchases they make tie into my park like the clicking on a banner identifies the site for payment)

Lets say you own a park across the street,. Same thing, same type billboards amd turnstyle counting the people who enter.

Who are the customers? THe customers to me are the people who decide to come into my park over your park...and buy the products on MY billboards....so I can get a percentage. Without those customers, I make no money. So its in my best interest for me to treat my customers well so they dont go over to your park and buy the products on YOUR bill boards.

Now lets look at the gambling sites.

Not only are people going through the turnstyles as customers.....on wov......but some of them are -planting flowers in the park(donating their time and effort posting to make the site/park better so that more customers will want to enter). Posters are customers that not only use the park, but also plant grass seed, so that others will want to enter the park as well.

Yes they are customers. There is a formula that advertises use that for every 1000 visitors, ...x amount will click on the banners, and Y amount ofpeople will actually open an account. If the site gets a percentage from the advertiser, then if 10,000 customers enter the site they could expect more money to be generated for them than is 9000 people enter the site.

Thats how this site works.....when they eventually get banners.
Thats how Wov works....except that the message board is not the only thing driving customers to the site. But still the analogy applies.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear:

The buyer could give two shits about WoV and its "foot traffic."

He only cared / cares about WoO.

Wow, so at its peak, 300 or so members would visit WoV, and now it's half that?

    So what?

Ka-ching, the money is in WoO.

I submit it might be more compelling if your evidence focused on visits to WoO instead of WoV; I would agree that a halving of daily traffic at WoO would result in substantial revenue loss to the site's owner, but that does not apply to WoV due to the much smaller daily traffic there, in comparison.

Oh, and MC: I understand hw ffiliation" works, but for discussion purposes I used the word "advertise," a more common term, one more readily understood by newbies.

So what, Lets say that over an entire year, only 3 people open accounts on bocada because they like to lurk on the message boards and they give in and opened an account. Lets say they generate 1000 dollars for theyear fr wov. owners.

That is 1000 free money. They dont pay mods anything. The manboy is getting paid what he gets paid no matter what. They have an IT man on their payroll because this is what they do for a living.......so any maintenance on wov is included in the payroll of the entire company.

So that is 1000 dollars they would never get if they closed down the site.

So if they can keep people happy and bring in more customers, and get 2 more people to sign up from the lurkers following the message boards.....and those 2 generate 1200 a year in commissions....then the next year....they might get 2200 if the others stayed on.

This is not throw away money. This is free money that they can get for doing nothing and employing no one extra.

AS I HAVE USED THIS EXAMPLE BEFORE.

Melville Corp Used to own CVS, KB toys and Thom Mccann shoes.
Just because CVS pharmacies made up a large percentage of the company bottom line profits.......doesnt mean the customers at the shoe and toy stores deserve to be treated like shit. And it doesnt mean for stockholders the profitability of the toy and shoe stores wasnt important even if their profits were not as large compared to CVS.

so it shows that mis-treatment causes member loss. And I have no idea how that negatively effects lurkers on the message boards. I am not their fucking accountant.
If the customers on the site are of no value to them, then close down the message board, instead of mistreating customers and then telling them that they have no value because we dont make enough money from you.

Hi melville corp....I was just in KBtoys and was treated poorly.....
Sir: KB toys came along in an acquisition for CVS pharmacy and we dont give a shit about them,,...so stop fucking complaining
