Yep, that captures the effect perfectly. I have been Mr. "X" so many times that I needed something to change. That was more than 3 years ago. It all came together for me with that video on trading stocks like a casino. I needed to figure out stopping points. That evolved into bet small / bet big. If you are in a prolonged "neutral" phase then you should also be in a bet small phase. That way if it changes to the "Shar Chi" phase you won't kill off the progress that is made by the hot phase at the big bet prices. There must be two prices. They must be attempted by the conditions that you see. It's like Mr. "X" has no concern over the conditions. It's like part of his brain is in a phase of not caring. You just keep sliding down hoping it will change but even if it does change for the better you won't care what the amount of enough might be. So the only stopping point in that mindset is the end of the bankroll. Your bankroll against the casino's bankroll is not a great strategy. So I stopped being Mr. "X."

    Conclusion:

Reading Randomness in the hands of Mr. X and you are doomed to fail.

Reading Randomness by a skilled player that knows the conditions and you will more than likely succeed.

Knowledge of the conditions alone is not enough. Taking the correct action is the most important feature.

Yeah I miss them old days when the Oriental girly like the MIchelle Tan and the Annie Lo would make the scene on the gambling glen to talk baccarats and espouse the benefits of the dragon style, hey hey.

Throughout the world, I suppose most, if not all, have a smart casual dress requirement; which is subjective. Maybe Monaco may be different? Havent been there and no connections there. James Bond was wearing black tie with his shaken not stirred whiskey in his movies. Even in the Ritz in London which is supposedly high end, nothing more than smart casual.

Ever since the Mainland Chinese have been travelling and ‘funding’ the casinos with their huge losses, casinos, US included, have tended to be really flexible in their definition of smart casual. In Singapore, as I walk the enclosed overhead bridge from the hotel building to the casino building, this vile looking man with a face only a mother can love, gave me a snarling nod as we kept pace with each other. Me in smart casual. He in shorts and a round collar tshirt. His neck weighed down by a gold chain with the thickness of my middle finger and adorned with all kinds of amulets. They have a firm belief these amulets help them win. I cant speak Mandarin so I couldn’t verify with him.

He was with 2 gorgeous bubbly ladies whose legs go on forever and ever like Nicole Kidman’s as she tower over her ex, Tom Cruise.

Security let him in without a second word but he headed straight for the private rooms section. They can do what they want in the private rooms but occasionally they, like I, do walk the main halls to de-stress or just enjoy the camaraderie in the casino.

So yes there are dress codes but interpretation is widely flexible. Like is said in Asia, “Got money got face. No money, cock face”. In American lingo, they shorten it to “Show me the money!”

He tore himself up from the chair and went for, like a uitwaaien but fresh air in the casino? He needs to get out but as he walked around he bumped into his host and they both sat down on the roulette table. After the usual exchange of pleasantries X told of his run this trip and the usual ‘Go slow Mr X, you can win it all back’. Do you think they really mean that?

Looking at the roulette results the host suggested to Mr X to bet $100 on 31 as in the last 8 hands, 1, 21 and 11 had come out. Mr X plonked down S$1,000 on 31 and 31 won!! He won 35k making his bankroll now S$135,000.

Being the Baccarat man that he is, he made his way back to the Baccarat tables and sat down firm in his belief that he is refreshed to start again.

To-ing and fro-ing results and he lost everything back. X made his way back to the room and as is the usual, regretting what might have been.

S$1,000,000! S$1,200,000 at its peak! Wtf! X went to Marquee the signature nightclub of MBS and drank himself silly. He called the host to arrange to take care of the bills.

Baccarat is like this. You need a plan and it has to be adhered to religiously and consistently. Make the plan according to your strength and weaknesses. These kinds of all or nothing arbitrary gaming plans cannot prevail in the long run. Still, at least, its a net win of S$400,000. Its no consolation. 1 f-ing million. Next trip but bring only 1k or 2k. Wash and repeat. Serious concentration for every bet placed.

So Mr X did another trip just a few months prior to the pandemic lockdown. The story starts again...Winning S$800,000 from S$800 this time.....

“The colours of a rainbow so pretty in the sky....” Louis Armstrong part of lyrics for his song Wonderful World

This multi coloured Baccarat table, though not exactly in rainbow coloured hues, attracted me the first time I walked by it. They call it Sands Six Baccarat.

On the top left hand and top right hand is the bet area for Player and Banker respectively. They dont have individual slots; you just place your bets at the area you want. All standing. If you are standing near the Player side and wishes to bet Banker, ask the dealer to place the bet for you.

Because of these crisscrossing of bets, dealers are often flustered and sometimes heated words exchanged.

The uniqueness of this game is that you can bet on the actual results. See the bottom. You have 3 rows of ‘Player wins on’, ‘Banker wins on’ and ‘Tie wins on’. You have to make a specific side bet. So say you want to bet that Player will win on 1. You bet $10 on the blue ‘1’ box at the bottom left. If indeed Player wins on 1, you are paid 150x ie $1,500. Its not clear on this photo. But lets say you bet $10 for Player wins on 9 and Player wins on 9 (doesn’t matter 2 or 3 card win), then you are paid 5x ie $50.

You can bet on Banker winning on a particular total and you can even bet on Tie results. If actual results differ, you lose. Say you had bet Player to win at 9. If Player won but won at 8, you still lose the side bet. If you bet on the results to be a Tie at 7, and the actual result is a Tie at 7, you win 35x your bet. If you had bet $10, you win $350. But if the result is anything but Tie at 7, you lose. Even if actual result is a Tie at 8, you lose.

Then there are other side bets like Player’s first 2 cards are both red (hearts and/or diamond) or both black (spade and/or clubs) Similarly for Banker.

This game tables are quite busy at the second level of the main gaming hall (the non smoking area) but not popular in the VIP hall.

But kudos to them for innovating the game.

About 3 months after the last episode, Mr X had to go Singapore again.

The wounds were fresh. Again, he didnt plan to be there long so he had his secretary arrange for S$2,000 which should be more than sufficient for expenses of an overnight stay; given room and transport are taken care of by the casinos.

After the meetings are done and dinner at Lavo (managed by an American entertainment group Tao whose owner is Noah Tepperberg). He went to his room to bathe and freshen up before going to the casino. His gaming time seems fixed to start @ 12 midnight. He took out S$800 and left the credit card and wallet in the room safe.

He played at the tables for @20 hours straight and ended with a capital deposit of S$800,000. He arranged to wire transfer $700,000 to his various accounts. He also withdrew S$75,000 cash and left the balance @$25,000 with the casino.

Another historic event. S$800 to win S$800,000! Another substantiating evidence that transfer of wealth can and do happen at baccarat. And based on the events of the last 2 trips, the lesson is take small money to make big money. Those who always claim that with a big enough capital they will never lose is kidding themselves. Like I said numerous times before, if one cannot manage small money how can they manage big money?

The title of this thread that Baccarat is the best small business is based on my carefully considered view as a serial investor as well as a serial entrepreneur. No business can allow you the possibility of raising capital from such a small base. Patience, peace, calm, humility and discipline are key factors; as they are in ANY business.

Nice post. Thanks L. I totally agree on transfer of wealth in Baccarat. The reality is only maybe 1% or less of Baccarat players can ever get to a level where they can win consistently. There are so many factors that go into what X did right to walk away with the money. Of course discipline, money management and years of Baccarat seat time are key and go without saying, but there is much, much more to it than that. Most will never know what those factors are because they never get the first 3 right.

The crux of the matter is that while I ventured to suggest that Baccarat is the best small business, the quoted success rate of 1% or thereabouts is just about right. But it is not any different from the success rate of entrepreneurs in all businesses.

But if one continuously loses in Baccarat over a period of time (this is subjective - some refuses to give up), one should maybe consider that maybe baccarat as a business is not suitable for him. There is no shame in admitting that. The shame and the subsequent hurt is in when one refuses to acknowledge his losses.

Not everyone can be successful in Baccarat. Not everyone is good in running an online e-commerce business.

It's called Super Baccarat in Vegas. Only Las Vegas Sands casinos have it. It's a total rip- off where odds are concerned. The payoff for Ties 0-5 is 140, 200,170,140,110 and 100 respectively. But this particular bet is offered at some casinos called the low tie bet for 55 to 1. So you bet $1 to win 55 if EITHER of those low ties 0-5 occurs. So in order to win at Sands, you need to bet $6 which is $1 on each and you only get 200 to $6 the max whereas it's $6 x 55 for a 330 to $6 for the other place.

So true. Theory is different from Practical. In theory , you see the whole picture and you based all findings on the big picture. During practical, it's like drawing a straight line without a ruler. You only based your assumption on past events and most of the time volatility kicks in and ruin all your judgements.

because I am in the retail sector I find that the more I can tranfer what happen in a business into a game like baccarat or any other game the more it helps. can you imagine if every time you paid a high electrical bill you would go to your business thinking "I just lost 800.00"$ and now I have to go the store ?
it would have a impact on you that no matter how many rolls you are going to sale in the next hours you may be lucky to brake even !
but signing a check dont feel the same as taking 800 $ out of the cash register and giving it out.
so casinos use chips instead of you playing with hard cash, I wonder why.
how would I play differently if I was using and betting with hard cash ?
    would I be a better player ?
perhaps more conservative or too conservative ? . a 100$ = milk, gas, entertainment.
what if I have various mini games with stricked rules and that everytime I win profit with one of those play I would look at it as a "item I just sold"
if I dont show a profit I would have that item stay in the case waiting for either a loss if I cant recoup the money later or a other win,(product I just sold). ?
my big bankroll is my business funding that keeps me going, one that stays in the bank or used when I go to play, but only take a small amount each time.
I even could draw annuity to support myself with from that business fund paying myself no matter what.
it sounds good in theory I know but one thing is crucial here. do I succeed long term running this game this way, as if it is a shop ,a business ?
maybe if a play does not succeed overtime, (a product), I should stop playing it, (did not sale) ???
another most important element is that everything I do while I am running this game-business HAS TO BE DOCUMENTED !!!
I think this concept could really work and it works always when I am using it.
it keeps me from gambling too much and help me stay discipline very much so.

    Cheers

There are also travel and casino expenses involved and not everyone is a "comp feeder". In brief for you in Rio Linda never ever play for comps.Pay your own expenses and you are in control.

I tend to differ from your views on this one. It's totally greed from my point of view. Sure and of course nobody would dare to be greedy if these kind of big wins never happens. So, what type of player is Mr. X now? Someone who would not leave with decent wins and that is exactly what happens to most people who kept thinking of the once upon a time. With disposable money, his mindset is the proper one. But for people who wants to make consistent extra income, it's bad influence.

One can never use comparisons from real life against Gambling. In real life when something is right, it's always right. It's how right that you can differentiate from one another. If something is wrong, it's how bad it is. In gambling a right can be so wrong and a wrong can be so right. Big difference here.
