Hi folks, It's nice to have an opportunity to chat with people that share similar hobbies! My history in gambling started in my early 20's. I was homeless, had very little motivation and had very severe and strange Obsessive compulsive disorder as well as autism enough that I could not work. I really wanted to have a place to call home and one day I started thinking up a strange strategy for American roulette at the casino closest to me. I spent weeks working on it and practicing on cell phone apps, without realizing most of them probably didn't give me accurate results. While I believe my basic math was pretty good as well as estimating I definitely did not know any college level or even advanced high school school math. Well The strategy I finished ended up being sort of of a hybrid of Martingale only a bit more of a linear increasing bet version than doubling, with some fibonacci-like system mixed in but with slightly different numbers. I also included what I called a stepladder system where I could decrease the bets many times while still increasing at a faster pace, but starting over at the minimum bet if I had If any of several events occured enough times in a short amount of spins whether profitable or not. Basically I tried to make it so it would last hundreds of spins and I didn't consider failure a possibility as all my cell phone roulette apps led me to believe it would work.
Finally I pawned off my camera and my Morgan silver dollar for $161 and headed to the casino. I was extremely lucky because I ended up winning almost $3000 on American roulette and about $1100 on blackjack despite not having a clue about basic strategy. I stayed all night called up a friend and told him I had a strategy that couldn't lose. He came to the casino and we each won a few hundred more dollars on roulette, split the profits then he headed home. I really needed some sleep but I didn't know when to quit. and eventually the slot machines tempted me. I lost over $1000 on slot machines and had to stop myself. That's When I started embracing risk management. I found a place to live for a while thankfully. I've since read that no strategy can be sustainable forever in roulette, and so began to study the foreign exchange market. I did not trade for seven years on forex because I could not guarantee any of my strange strategies would not lose over a large sample size. I finally decided to try a strategy, and over the years improved more , and now Forex is both my job and my hobby. I really enjoy creating strategies and using forex indicators(tools) in strange ways. I've also long since gotten back into gambling, although I can lay off the slots and try various forex strategies on table games. I have lost, multiple times so I treat the table games as a hobby now. I realize if the house has an edge there is no strategy that sustain itself forever , but my part of my brain still thinks there's another factor not being taken into consideration. Luckily I'll listen to other peoples opinions over my own, in this case.
In conclusion, if there's anybody else out there that likes testing creating or improving strategies for table games, markets, sports betting, even slots I think we would get along quite well!
I look forward to reading everyone's story on this forum!
