Interesting take considering there are many people considered professionals yet didn't do any of that. Steve Jobs comes to mind.

    not all professionals are entrepreneurs
    not all entrepreneurs are professionals

    not all inventors are professionals
    not all professionals are inventors.

    not all millionaires are professionals
    not all professionals are millionaires

a walmart security guard can call themselves professional retail law enforcement, consummate professional law enforcement, expert professional law enforcement .....no one can stop them....and no one can stop me from laughing at them saying that.

And an AP can self proclaim that they are professionals and I can equally laugh

its amusing to me......not angst producing.

But can you show a profit? That's the big question. And obviously, LarryS the loser can't. He's jealous, jealous, jealous, of those of us who can.

Larry, with my poor background and not so great professional status it is very hard to explain to you what it takes to be a true professional gambler. So, without further ado, I would request that the most famous, most qualified, the best of all time, that greatest of machine pros, EXOTARDO!!!!!!, explain it to you.

Exotardo, would you please thrill the gallery with your brilliance in gambling. Perhaps show us your expertise in combinatorial mathematics and how it applies to gambling. Please, Exotardo, bless us with your presence.

Yes, in my profession I have shown a "profit".When you subtract the vehicle wear and tear and gas for my car used to get to work, and dry cleaning for my uniform, and the cost of continuing education to maintain my license and the cost of my college tuition .....I have made a very nice "profit" over the last 38 years.

And if a car mechanic or a slot button pusher,or cake decorator makes more than me as non-professionals.....that is great for them. No envy on my part....my life is just fine.

I agree because there are some standards that dictate if someone is a professional. And just because someone claims it to be true doesn't make it so, that's for anything in life. Also I never used the word consummate exitor did. Feel free to laugh at him or anyone that does, I'll probably laugh as well. However if you laughed at someone like Grosjean or Ivey, I would laugh at you, as would a vast majority of people.

FYI There might be an association for professional security guards.

The problem you have is that you only have your biased opinion. Show me evidence other than your opinion that there's no such thing as a professional gambler.
There's a significant amount of evidence including but not limited to...
THE ACTUAL DEFINITION DATING BACK HUNDREDS OF YEARS.
    The Supreme court
    The IRS
    A Vast amount of Publications
Historical literature and references (Ancient Jewish authorities frowned on gambling, even disqualifying professional gamblers from testifying in court.)
    Current literature
    Television
    Radio
    movies
    documentaries
    Experts in other fields
    State Gaming Authorities
    hundreds of Websites
    Thousands of google references
    Casino owners and Management classifications
Magazines, including major ones like Forbs
Newspaper articles, such as the NY Times
    Art

Your use of the word "professional, renders it meaningless.
Its like the current use of the word "awesome" or "amazing" in this day and age.
How was your trip to see the pyramids?......answer....It was awsome
How are those grapes you are eating.....answer....they are awesome.
How was it to witness the birth of your child last week......amswer///It was amazing
Did you get a chance to eat at the new pizzeria intown yet?.....answer....yes...the pizza is amazing

Its just a lazy way of talking to the point where its all meaningless expression with no meat behind the declaration.

Same with using the word "professional" as you do. After a while everyone and their grandmother is a professional in your world. Every one is a professional and everything is awesome. What a utopian world we live in

when intellectually lazy people use words like awesome, professional, and amazing ..they make me laugh

As in any trade there are those that are bad at it, those that are mediocre at it, and those that excell at it. Surely you don't deny that "professional gambler" is a term used since time immemorial to describe the occupation. Since you don't like the term as it is used, prey tell what terms you would use. Enlighten us. Or are you just trolling?

    Ahhhh you fell into it

in a real profession.....the nurse would be stripped of her title from a governing board.

A governing board that sets standards of performance and standards of behavior

    PROFESSIONAL GAMBLERS HAVE NO STANDARDS......zero...nada

you can be arrested and jailed for fucking a nursery of infants.....get out of jail...and still be a professional gambler.

there is no over-seeing body to strip you of your title.

The word "professional" is an adjective that means "following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain." Look it up in any dictionary. My occupation is gambling. It's my sole source of income (livelihood). I've never had a losing year. By the definition put forth in dictionaries, I'm a professional.
