A governing board!?! That is what you are basing your "professional" argument on? Good grief! Here in Nevada there have been a number of cases in the past year of doctors and nurses practicing without a license. One case the person lost his license in California, yet still practiced here in Nevada.

And since you are so hung up on discussions of pedophilia, I can actually recall quite a number of cases, including recent cases here in Nevada of medical "professionals" charges with child sexual assault and child pornography. And while I am sure there are such cases, I don't recall any cases where a professional gambler was charged with child sexual assault. o_O

    http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/06/us/la...s-sexual-assault-child-pornography/index.html

And don't even get me started with drug abuse and distribution. There are frequent cases of those in the medical "profession" involved illegal selling of prescription drugs and/or prescription drug pads.

My point being that their are sleazy, conning, dishonest people in all walks of life...very much included in your beloved ball-washing business, Larry. So get off your high horse of categorizing and judging people.

I believe Mission is a full time writer now.
Is it your opinion that no one can be a professional gambler or professional poker player?
As I do? I use it when I think it's appropriate. I would call someone like Billy Walters a professional sports bettor. I would call Phil Ivey a professional poker player.

Is it your opinion that NO ONE AT ALL is eligible to be considered a professional gambler?

I'm sure there many professions that don't have a over-seeing body to trip you of your title but even the ones that do ....
"Hundreds of doctors in the United States have been found guilty of criminal acts, according to the Federation of State Medical Boards. Many continue to practice. The crimes included conviction of criminal sexual conduct, patient abuse or neglect, driving under the influence, and insurance fraud."

A Professional singer or songwriter can commit crimes and there's no over-seeing body. There's definitely professional singers and songwriters.

And again, you're ignoring the part, for like the 5th time, where I said perhaps "Consummate professional" wasn't the appropriate term, but it is indeed very hard to separate the Mickey Crimms(PBUH) of the world from mere mortals such as myself. Its hard to understand, without having done what we do, the real divide, the real gap in "ability" and "knowledge" a professional "hustler" and what we call a "Pseudo Hustler". A pretty common term used for us "professionals" in the Midwest/Southwest, "Pseudo Hustlers" are those that know a "trick" works, but would rather use it to extend a gambling period, rather than turn it into a source of income. Those guys who show similar personality traits like Mickey here, who might hustle 90% of the day to make $40, then immediately go blow $50 when he's drunk on poor decisions. These guys are the worst enemies of us "professionals" and largely what drive us to more remote locations, or to "higher level" plays, simply because its these bottom feeding "pseudos" that kill plays for us and reduce our bottom line.

    E. Same as above

    G. Check, happened just Thursday night in Omaha. Happens almost daily, but over the phone more than in person. (/wave "The Kidd")

Mickey, lay off the sauce, what we do isn't nearly as complicated as you think it is, most people are just too dumb, and too blind to think outside of the box, or simply open their eyes to what is in front of them. You're trying to give us wayyyyyy too much credit.

No thanks: I prefer to work a "real," "traditional" job, and then use a small fraction of my income to gamble at negative expectation games in the casino.

I go once or twice a month, and every time I go I enjoy myself, win or lose.

The one real knock I have on "professional gambling" is the same I have on sports betting: if I have to gamble to put food on the table, it would be too much pressure, just as if I bet on a team to win it takes away my ability to enjoy the game as a fan of the sport, no matter who wins.

I suppose AP is OK for those who want to walk that road, but to me gambling should be fun, an escape, not a stone cold serious endeavor.

    To each his own.

The trick, MrV, is to find plays that you always beat. It's not so easy to do for most people but it is a reality for some of us.

well you cant recall where a "professional gambler" was charged with ..................
because there are no records or licensing for a make believe profession. Investigative journalists cannot do a search of databases and see that someone has earned the title "professional gambler"....nor can they research databases of the over-seeing authority to see if the license has been revoked...as they can do for doctors and nurses and lawyers, pharmacists, teachers.

A self proclaimed low-life "professional gambler" who commits a crime is simply reported as UN-EMPLOYED by the media in most cases.

are there people who are phony doctors lawyers, nurses???...sure but they are subject to arrest.

Any person who claims to be a "professional gambler" who really isnt...is just fine.

Stew unger was a well known drug addict, ...and full time gambler

Scotty Ngyuen was so drunk during a televised taped chip reese memorial tourny...that ESPN had a hard time editing the tape to look halfway deceint because of the vulgarity.

It seems if you are a "professional gambler: you can show up to work drunk or drugged.....and verbally abuse "co-workers".

I cant think of any real profession that allows that. He didnt miss a single day of "work" via the governing board of poker......(which doesnt exist)
or the governing board of "gambling"

Are there convicted rapist doctors?? Sure...but being a profession there is a governing board that protects the public from known rapist doctors from practicing. Are there rapist gamblers? Sure. But there is no governing body that prevents a self proclaimed "professional" gambler convicted rapist from having a seat at a poker table next to my wife. There is no governing body that prevents a convicted child molester "professional gambler" from sitting next to me at a slot machine.

    your logic is non -existent

gambling is not a "profession". Its an activity that people can partake in and make money.
It can be viewed as a trade, like a cake decorator, painter, plumber, car mechanic, slot machine button pusher....all require skill and all can produce income. All the above can be convicted rapists and still participate in their trade. Thats a big difference between trades and professions.

Billy Walters is a successful gambler. Maybe full time gambler, maybe part time gambler. He is also an entrepreneur..owning other businesses like golf courses.

Is there anything a "professional" gambler can do to make them lose their professional gambler membership card? Ummmm.....nothing,. A professional gambler could have been singly responsible for all the 911 deaths......and he could still call himself a professional gambler....and no one could deny him that right. Now THAT is the antithesis of "professional".
What good is a "profession" without a code of conduct....without standards to get in, and standard to be maintained.

That's YOUR personal bad opinion. You can choose to recognize someone as a professional or not.

However your opinion isn't the reality, it's not what most people think, and your opinion doesn't fit the true definition of the word, so you are wrong. The word professional is universal and i'm sure not all professions that you would consider professions in all countries have the standards, licensing and codes of conduct that you talk about.

Each profession has it's own standards that qualify it as a profession, not all require "strict" oversight.

Some professions are more highly qualified and require licensing and oversight,. That's mainly because we as americans require it, because their professions oftentimes deal with the public and their bad decisions can hurt people physically, mentally or financially.

It's obvious your opinion sucks and you don't actually realize the differences. Especially since you mentioned mechanics as someone that's not a real professional because there are oftentimes requirements to be a professional mechanic such special licenses, testing, ASE certification, master mechanic certification, dealership qualifications.

so please do tell what are the standards of an AP,that would exclude a convicted mass murdering, child rapist from your "profession". And who does the excluding. Were you elected? Or can anyone and their convicted woman beating brother call themselves an AP?.....which would make your "profession" meaningless....because anyone can proclaim membership.
So what are the standards that everyone recognizes.

ITs simply a trade. Like a cake decorator. Anyone can call themselves a professional cake decorator. Some make alot of money at it. But they are tradesman...not professionals.

Larry I gave you a long list of things that I believe would define someone as a professional gambler. You ignored it. You normally ignore valid points and just start talking about child molestation and pedophilia.

You disregard the supreme court, you disregard the IRS, you disregard the actual definition of a professional, you disregard history, you disregard publications, you disregard popular opinion and everything else. You have nothing other than your personal opinion.

Fact: someone can be, and there are professional gamblers. Fact: Larry the professional ball washers is jellose of that fact, because he worked hard to get his online ball washing degree, and now has a oversight board that loosely monitors his ball washing technique.

    I BOLDED THE WORD "BELIEVE"

professional standards are not about YOUR 'beliefs"

If the world revolved around AXHOLE WOLF...then you would have a valid point.

Real professions have standards engraved in stone. Real professions dont have standards based on a single persons "beliefs".

    It not about BELIEFS

Its about real standards of performance and behavior

Your girlfriend is a pharmacy technician according to you. She is a professional licensed by the board of pharmacy(in most states thats true.....not sure where you live)....she has rules, regulations and standards that have nothing to do with a single person's "beliefs".

No one can just claim that they are a licensed tech and proclaim that the standards are what they "believe".....as you do. They must posses a license and be familiar witht he board of pharmacy rules and regs/laws. And that is that standard.

Standards of real professions do not change based on which way the wind blows.......they dont vary based on individual "beliefs"

'Beliefs" are for the tooth fairy and easter bunny.....not for real professions.

Real professions have consequences for violating the rules and regulations and standards.

according to you a dude can spends his days at the local vieo arcade at the mall, playing video games for money agaisnt others.....and they can be "professionals" as long as they have "beliefs" that theyare. Nice try

no one in their right mind considers them a member of a profession.

Doing something that makes alot of money doesnt automatically define you as a professional
there are tradesmen, and entrepreneurs that make alot more money than alot of professionals. Its not about money.

Pharmacy technicians in some places make 12 dollars an hour. They are licensed, they have specific laid out standards to meet. They are governed by an over-seeing board to help ensure standards are met and maintained. They make less than trades people like cake decorators.
That doesnt mean then since cake decorators make more...then they(cake decorators) are professionals. It doesnt mean that anyone who makes more than 12 dollars an hour is a professional.

As far as the people who make thousands online playing video games for money, or people who play videogames for money at the local mall....no difference.,,,except for the amount of money on the line. They are doing the same type "work".And the people playing video games at the mall are not professionals.....so the ones that play online doing the same shit are not professionals as well. Its just plain logic

The word "professional is an adjective that means "following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain." It's in the dictionary. Piss, whine, and moan about it all you want to, Larry, but I'm still a professional. Now go wipe your ass.

So basically what you're saying, Larry, is that you want to have your cake and eat it too?

If those making hundreds of thousands, if not millions per year aren't "Professionals" because they lack licensing and regulation, but those that passed a simple background test and went to college are, then you're basically the words biggest hypocrite, and all around idiot.

I have multiple degrees, Larry, one of which is my BBA. Does creating, building, and managing my team of individuals not count towards my profession? Does that NOT make me a professional, since I've got a piece of paper saying so?
