    12Bet and To Cong Hung, 33, Alleged Leader of Illegal Online Gambling Ring Arrested as Police Break Up $47 million Illegal Gambling Ring

    Investigations led the Vietnamese police to arrest To Cong Hung. Hung is a publisher of a Vietnamese version of the gay lifestyle magazine Attitude and according to an illegal gambling ring bust on January 23rd an online gambling ring leader. Hung along with nine other accomplices raked in close to $47 million in illegal wagers.

    Investigations reported that Mr. Hung had been managing the ring for several months with the websites’ gaming server located overseas in the Philippines. Hung’s sister was in on the illegal activity as her involvement included the opening of several bank accounts that provided gamblers ways to deposit funds into their accounts, and then later converted into virtual currencies.

    The website, 12bet with the main focus on sports betting, included other forms of gambling as well. Mr. Hung was the director of a magazine dedicated to the gay community in Ho Chi Minh City, so his name was widely known throughout. He transferred tens of millions U.S Dollars to gamblers each month making the total of transfers close to $47 million USD.

    Besides the 10 that were already arrested, police have interest in more than 10 additional individuals in connection with the illegal gaming activity. The investigation is still ongoing with police looking further into the matter.
