Forex What's so cool about ECN brokers, I don't get it

I have been reading about ECN brokers. And to me it looks like it is a rumor based ad campaign to drive people towards ECN brokers where you pay commission. And the way to do it is fear-based advertisting, as in "the evil market makers are hunting your stop, so better go to ECN brokers, where their magic will protect you for the small fee of a commission".

Only been trading with OANDA so far, worked for me, nothing to complain, but all the talk about not ECN being the devil got me interested to talk about this.
