I dont think that people get the urge to play "carnival games" per se.

My wife doesnt understand any sports. Doesnt know the rules. Always found them boring and meaningless.
Then we moved to the west coast I started betting sports.
All of a sudden she is riveted to the screen knowing I/WE stand to make money.

She doesnt need carnival games to get a gambling fix. She gets it in the comfort of our home on a high def large screen with our favorite snacks and beverage.

Online/brick and mortar sports betting shifts people away from carnival games. I also agree with a previous poster who mentions poker as being viewed as a game "on the level". Plus poker has the competition angle that other games dont have.....actually the feeling of beating someone by figuring out the puzzle and making the right bets,

With sports there isnt a feeling that the casino is trying to FK you.....no rude dealers, no uncertainty on how to play or making the "wrong bet or wrong move". No obnoxious idiots next to you blowing cigar smoke in your face.

The younger crowd is betting poker and sports on a regular basis

Now on a one time basis like a bachelorette party...yes you can see some young folks out on the town.

But you dont see the monthy or weekly trips to casinos by young folks...unless its to bet sports or play poker.

Not really, not a lot. It takes money to gamble, middle aged people have it and young people don't. That hasn't changed at all and never will. Don't kid yourself, nobody has ever trusted casinos, they always knew the games were rigged in the casinos favor. But it's fun, nobody cared.

    I THINK THE OPPOSITE.
We talk about little kids staying home and playing video games and losing interest in outdoor "play"
Well young adults get just as much of a rush from getting to a higher level on a video game, as the rush from winning 20 dollars.

As the young people are immersed in video games, home entertainment centers, sports betting, table poker, fantasy sports betting, internet ...they are not secretly looking forward to the day when they can place a dollar on the big wheel, or put 5 dollars on black at roulette.

When atlantic city opened up....my entertainment options just out of school was movie theaters with one screen, cable tv that has 30 channels,
color tv with questionable picture quality, hanging out at a bar,. Panasonic released a VHS recorder/player, video stores had not yet popped up as there werent many relased tapes. Video games were sparse....pong was very popular/Atari. No internet.
So given those options....a 2 hour drive to AC wasnt so bad,

All I can go by is my experience. In 30 years of going to casinos all I see are mostly middle aged people who are gambling. Even the few places I've been where 18 was the gambling age, there were kids there but they were mostly watching because they had no money. Maybe where you live it's all 21 year old's playing, who knows. I've never seen it.

where I am there are very few kids playing. And I dont anticipate that they are aching to play the big wheel or roulette when they get older as has been suggested.

They have much more choices for entertainment and gambling than I did. As they are gambling online on sports or fantasy sports, or watching movies, concerts, sports on big screen hi def tvs,....they are not yearning for a hand of blackjack. They are not thinking "i cant wait till i make more money so I can place 5 dollars on red".

As the baby boomers like myself die off,,,,,race tracks are closing down, and casinos are not getting replacements for us.

Why? for all the reasons mentioned....I was introduced to casinos very early in my adult life becasue of lack of diversity in entertainment available and I took a liking to it.
younger folks have a multitude of other choices for entertainment...including gambling online.

when they get money later in life they wont wake up one day and say "lets start going to race tracks and casinos"
