With the index plays, since the top 18 (illustrious 18) captures 90% of ALL available gain from index play, learning more than that is diminishing returns and not worth the effort for minimal and diminishing returns. If you don't believe me ask him. I know because I have had that discussion with him several times.

If you need further proof, while Don plays RPC (a level 2 count) because theat is what he learned so many years ago, the book is written in the language of hi-lo. All examples including the illustrious 18 are set to hi-lo numbers.

I consider myself a disciple of Don's. Simplicity and diminishing returns. Don't waste time and effort on diminishing returns. Do things that matter.

I am not aware of 3 books. I am aware of 1, which has been update with new editions several times.

I also believe I made a mistake in my post about the Illustrious 18. I said those 18 index play capture 90% of the total advantage available from all index plays. I will look to confirm but I think that number may be 80%. No matter really 80 or 90%. The remaining 10 or 20% is spread out among the next 100 index plays after those first 18 and many of them occur at such high counts that they occur so very infrequently to really add much. Some of them also occur at negative counts to the point that any small gain from making the index play is only a fraction of the -EV the player is playing at. In other words: A player shouldn't even be playing those negative counts.

Nope, not me but it doesn’t surprise me. They were on a tight budget all along and a big hit probably hurt the bottom line in a serious manner. I was playing machines and getting huge return play for minimal risk. Far above what any other casino I knew of at the time.
