Learning proper playing strategies and sound money management principles is only part of a successful casino gambler's game plan. Having a proper playing attitude is just as important.

The typical attitude of losing gamblers is something like this: They always go to the casinos to have fun and of course, they always expect to lose. They experience an emotional high when playing and are invariably swept up in the exciting casino atmosphere. They always feel obligated to take the free drinks offered by the casino as a way of getting even for their losses. And, of course, when they lose, they always blame it on rotten luck, or poor cards, but the consolation for their losing is "well, I had a good time anyway," attitude.

Keep this thought in mind next time you go to a casino to have some fun. First, when you enter a casino, you are entering a place of business. And like all successful businesses, the casinos are operated by shrewd businessmen whose job is firstly, to keep you playing and happy and secondly, to separate you from your money as quickly and painlessly as possible. To meet these objectives, they create an atmosphere in the casino that can be described as a "Disneyland for adults." No clocks to let you know it's time to leave this utopia, no windows to let you see out to the real world, free drinks at the tables, free lounge shows and plenty of pretty girls to keep you happy and playing.

And what happens to the average gambler when he/she enters this casino designed excitement? For him/her, the rewards of winning all of the casino's money far outweigh the risks of losing his meagre hundred dollar bankroll. And this exciting atmosphere also makes it so easy for the average player to feel lucky and go for broke at the chance of winning that jackpot.

First and foremost, in order to be a winner, you must learn to control your emotions in the casino. The real struggle when you are playing is, in most cases, not between you and the casino, but between you and yourself. You will find plenty of temptations to keep you playing and losing, therefore, you must learn to develop a sense of timing or awareness of when to play and, more importantly, when to quit.

In short, you must develop the proper playing attitudes to overcome the psychological barriers created by the casinos to keep you losing and to make it difficult for you to leave the tables with a profit. For example, go to the casinos expecting to win (rather than lose). Granted, there are no guarantees that you will win, but likewise there is no guarantee that you have to lose. Always prepare yourself for those inevitable losing sessions. No matter how skilfully you play, sometimes everything will go wrong. Will you quit and call it a day or will you be like most gamblers and dig in for more cash, hoping the tide will turn? And how many gamblers have the attitude that a small profit is better than no profit or a loss? Not many.

Above all, learn to develop a sense of timing for when to play and when to quit. Playing blackjack, for example, if you are tired or have been drinking will cost you dearly.

These attitudes are not always natural. Most of them take an amount of work before you can feel comfortable playing with discipline. But if you develop these proper playing attitudes and learn proper playing and money management strategies, you will be able to enjoy the fun and excitement of casino gambling with a minimum risk at your bankroll. Isn't it worth the effort?

    Player or Banker?

"You are right when you say your primary battle is with yourself, as this battle permeates all aspects of your play, and proper self-management --as one might be managed by a coach on the sidelines is critical."

"You are wrong when you say that the casino deserves no respect as an opponent. These people know more about the psyche of the gambler than is ever published in any psychology book, and they are more than willing to use this information in any way they can to trip up the winning player."

"As a player, you have 3 fronts to watch: monitoring yourself, monitoring the game, and monitoring the casino as it reacts to your play of the game. Repeated lessons in each of these areas teach one to, value playing when you are not stressed ("by anything" including your level of play), not emotionally upset, and well rested, and to understand that NO APPROACH to play wins in every situation EVEN ONE WHICH DELIVERS A verifiable WIN BIAS-- and when you encounter those bad shoes, one must learn to "take their lumps" like a big boy or girl, and walk away a temporary "LOSER". In this regard, playing at, NOT ABOVE one's comfort level is the mark of a confident player, sticking more money out in front of you when you are losing, is the act of a scared person, NOT A WINNER."

Or you must find a way to know when to bet or when not to bet. I play on $5 minimum tables where $5 is the minimum amount on the inside or outside on Roulette. I must keep betting in order to keep my choice position seat. That's a seat where I can reach every bet location on the wheel while staying in one position. So I bet on 30 numbers to win when I'm in a non funded bet state. I know that in any 100 spin session I could lose as much as $70 with the average loss of $15 per 100 spins as the long term average. That's a tax I must pay to keep my seat. But what I get in return for a paid seat at the table is the option to use my own crafted "sense of timing or awareness" to execute opportunities based on session awareness characteristics. When you walk away from a table, just because the session is difficult, you miss out on when the action changes. That too is an awareness. It's always all about entering a casino to win. It is a war with situational awareness as the weapons. The great thing is that the casino keeps on serving up moments that can only be described as good timing.

What you wrote in general is very savvy and aware. It's almost as if I wrote it myself.

How are you doing this? Even bet and a Dozen bet?

    Never look back.

I'll share something I witnessed over a decade ago, some bikie dude is maxing out number 17, table max straight up, all neighbours, corners. It was costing him a fair whack, every few spins he was re-buying in. Towards the end when he was in for like close on $10k, wad after wad, after wad, he was looked worried, reckon he was getting close to the end of his funds. Anyway number 17 eventually hits. The relief was enormous, everybody cheered the winning number, cos' nobody is a fan of the casino. As he hot trotted to the cage, some astute Chinese player, said "he just got his money back", personally I wasn't counting. As he walked back from the cage to the exit, 17 hit again. He wasn't in the least interested, rather just content he got his money back.

So like I say, when you leave a table, end a session, "don't look back", it is just there to mentally fuck with you, don't let it, don't dwell on what if, rather focus on, "you ended the session for good reason, or you "quit the table for good reason". The results could have gone the other way, just another case of Murphy's Law playing mind games with you.

Haha, thanks, but I didn't write it, Shhusshhh, don't tell anybody :D:D:D:D

1.) I bet 5 chips, one each for one of the six double streets. In other words I bet on five of the six double streets. I'm always searching for a long running sleeping dozen. It tells you where to leave a double street exposed. I use to wait for very large stretches of a sleeping dozen so I'm already trained to see it.

2.) I have a never look back threshold too. Some times a session can just be too difficult and what is needed is a distraction. So I end the trudge.

3.) It's good stuff. You can expect to win. You just have to give yourself the chance.

I don't go anywhere near casino games where the dealer influences the outcome, especially a double zero wheel.

i agree 100% control your emotions, even in chess emotions have no control over you or should it. and like in chess you wouldn't up the betting stakes after the 2nd or third move? so why should you in gambling unless you know with some degree out come? we won't know whos the winner until the game is over, i guess thats where im at in baccarat ,in a chess game and have no idea when to up my bet starting/middle/end game of my session bankroll? everyone here seems to be ahead of the game tho

I expect them to end sooner, not later too. But if they wake on the next spin I have half of that sleeping dozen covered anyway. I became a master of watching the characteristics of dozens/columns, and two other dozen sized groupings all at the same time. The only reason that I gave up on double dozen, any 24 numbers, is that they dig fast deep holes when they lose and so it becomes necessary to hit a big win streak in order to win a session. But the 50/50 even chance games are actually less volatile. They don't dig big holes fast and they also streak, just not as commonly as the double dozens. Here are the facts about the occasional sleeping dozens. They tend to only last about 8 spins. But they do tend to go 15 in a row once about every 100 to 150 spins. Once in a long while you will see a sleeping dozen go for more than 20 spins in a row. The sleeping dozen is not the only characteristic. You get patterns like singles, double, and triples. I just watch this at a glance. It just gives me an edge when I cover 5 double streets for my seat purchasing gig. My game is really on hunting down characteristics that I can bet my big bet on.

I have mentioned over the years that characteristics can come in huge swarms. I called it the global effect. This is when the casino is at its most vulnerable point. The same characteristic will swarm in different locations and bet selection points. An example would be that whenever the dominant side hits in streaks the weak side always hits as a single and then returns to the dominant side. Now this could be occurring in the Black / Red grouping and then start occurring in the Odd / Even grouping. I have 6 groupings to monitor. If I see a characteristic swarm, then it is my obligation to attack and destroy the casino for that session. And I do. It's just like a bag of gold sitting there to be picked up. But it is commonly rare. I'm no longer hunting for miraculous global effects. But I will attack any that I stumble across. What I find fascinating is that I have identified these as pattern formations that have zero capacity to predict the future. Yet they occur because I am always looking out for them. You can know when they are done. Perfect situations fall apart. I'm skilled at getting off when things tend to be done. You can't hang on to a trend past its confirmation that it is no longer holding its form. Every trend ends with it's first loss. I'm not so wound up in them. I know that they fall apart fast. I just go back to unfunded hunting. My goal is to win enough for the day. It's a very tight organized game. It's much easier to grab a few apples here and there than it is to chop down the whole tree.

And yet you're here all day spewing all of that drivel instead of bankrupting the casinos. Get real!

OK, asshole, I will get real. I don't love money. What I like is excellence and challenges. The thrill is off regarding gambling. I figured it out. First there was ignorance mixed with magical beliefs. Then there was the search for systems that would change my life. Life needed to be changed because I became disabled and lost the career that I had planned on paying off for my whole life. I was one of the very first poly extreme athletes. My first thing was ski mountaineering combined with very steep descents. They called it extreme skiing about the time it became boring to me. I discovered that achieving the highest level of competency in anything was worth far more than keeping up with the Jones'. So when I set out to conquer gambling it held the same level of challenges as any other mountain top experience, at least for me. I did almost all my extreme sports alone. The only exception was rock climbing. It takes at least two to protect a difficult climb. So back to the challenge of gambling. The hard part for me was overcoming my desire to change the situation of my life. It put extra pressure on my back that was not needed. I had to find the way to take the personal psychology off my back. That includes both the casino mild warfare and the war going on between my ears. The secret is the same as rock climbing in Yosemite. You must be focused on the game. You can't let fear, anxiety, or bad choices to infect your thinking while you play. I was an expert at trend recognition and strategies. I was not an expert at attacking and backing off. That is what I have been working on for the past two and a half years. I recently began online gambling. It's the same issues. So I don't have to travel 700 miles back and forth to get to a casino anymore. I don't have that financial burden attached to each session anymore. I'm not rich. I can't just blaze away with session after session every day. It's not a very good idea anyway. I'm not afraid to fail in order to become one of the very best in a field. I sucked as a skier when I started out. The same goes for rock climber. I'm not in the suck category when it comes to gambling. I was gone from here for months. I came back because something interesting was being discussed and then Bozo purchased BS.cc. That was just fun, all that stuff. These threads are interesting. They talk on the level of figuring out how to beat a casino. I'm here as long as there is something here to talk about. I'm retired. I have a lot of time on my hand. The good old days are far in the rear view mirror.

First off, put some paragraph breaks in your responses, much easier to read

How is betting 5 streets a 50-50 game. I've actually played that way, soon gave it up because I didn't like risking 5 units just to win 1.

Casinos's aren't vulnerable, unless you're surname is Packer.

Calm down, you make your nut, you won't destroy.

How do you manage that, as you're based in the US?

    Good one, do stick around.

I have a question, I'm guessing you have more than monitor when you're playing online? Inputting data on your other screen into that program you have knocked together?

Betting five double streets with a dollar on each double street is my minimal stand off bet. I bet from $18 to $90 on a total of 18 numbers as my standard bet.

During a typical long lasting Global Effect they are in a weakened state to me. These conditions can last from an hour to four hours. My win rate goes up to 80%+. You just flat bet at your highest level until it unravels.

I get it. I blow the pit bosses mind too.

There are ways if you are from a legal state and you stay away from Sport Bets.

I built a miniature, entry only, charting app that fits next to the gambling screen. It does not keep track of winners and losers. I have playing rules that keep that straight.

Nice one Mark, I know you're a smart guy when it comes to coding, you have my admiration in that respect...

I understand about the street bets, it's like the icing and cake, the street bets are just icing, something to do until the cake is ready...

I almost always lose a little on the 30 number bets. They are just there to keep the seat. I gave up on huge trends. I just hunt things like doubles or singles. The weak side tends to flow in singles and doubles while the strong side is absent singles. My method to beat a casino is to walk with from 3 to 7 net wins at the high price. This all occurs well within the range of small swings. I do this by looking at the session's bigger picture.

While I do have a loss limit with my game it can devastate me. Note that the only way I lose is if I lose composure. Nothing worse than going home and seeing you read your patterns wrong and the answer is right in front of you. Mainly flat betting with the occasional two going positive or negative and not necessarily the next bet. My discipline after a loss is? NOT increasing my bet but going to the table minimum. Same plan flat bet with the occasional two. I will make myself leave a winner even if its with 8 dollars or a loss of commission. Yes I consider that a win. YES it takes forever as much as six days to get that loss back or longer depending on the unit size I was at. I even play less. Its my penance for being a dumb ass. When I get back to even I will do one of two things up my unit or increase the amount of units I go for. Till I screw it up again. Today I was 11 units down. Couldn't buy a decision. Bet 2 a handful of times. essentially flat betted 14 units to get ahead 3 bet one of them loss and cut it off.

You know we can learn from all gambling sources of information. Mine on this way of thinking was Doyle Brunson's Power Poker book. The thing that resonated with me was he would start playing for pennies. Get into small poker games. Work the circuit in Texas. Build his bankroll and go attack Vegas. Went broke and did it all again like three times before he hit out the park and never left. He knew his system worked he just had to hit a run at it.

Knowing this game is 50-50 your best odds you should be able to build a game that suits your personality. If this is a hobby that's great be careful. If your looking to make some money. Know your style of play to tee. You don't have to play.... You choose to play....
