    That's a fair cup.

BTW: I hope you've noticed I'm restricting my off-topic posts to this now resolved quasi-dead thread.

If anyone has any questions in other threads that might be in my area of expertise mention me or PM me to respond. I may miss them.

    Winning your BS is "Luck"
Handling winning & losing phase, money management and emotion require "Skill"

Inho it's not the way around...

WRONG. It's all luck. How can you say only the BS is "luck" when you continue to use the same BS or another "lucky" BS to handle the win/lose phase, the MM, etc?

You're still dependent on the BS no matter the configuration of the bets, so it's all luck.

Luck does not exist, it's just a catch-all word for things that happen that people do not understand. If you do not have a skill you win by chance not by luck. And if you do not have the skill of course you think nobody does.

I'm going to disagree with you this time Spike in an odd sort of way that ends in agreement.

Luck exists, it is a word that in English people use to make retrospective comments on past events. In mandarin Chinese the word is thrust into the future-tense as babies with no track record can be born "lucky" in the year of the dragon. In Greek "luck" means you're an idiot that has no business having experienced the success you have.

Sticking to English people use the word, "luck" or "bad-luck" to denote when the pendulum of chance has swung in one direction or the other.

If people only used it in this fashion I would not take issue. The problem is that for some saying, "I was lucky" means more to them than, "I engaged in an activity with a random element and due to no fault of my own happened to experience a positive result." For some, it is a siren's call to action with worse and even riskier decisions in the future.

I see this as a bad thing.

I learned this lesson very early in life and always attempted to fight the tide. If I was lucky, I pulled in my horns and attempted to be more conservative moving on. Rather than celebrate my victories and rest on my laurels, I took unexpected success as a sign I needed to do better...not a validation that I should do the same thing expecting the same result!

I also believe that many people attribute their lucky success and positive results to skill or experience, when simple random chance was the true culprit.

I'm NOT talking about you here. I'm saying in the wider world it happens. People get lucky and then take FULL credit.

You know I'm right on that, so I expect no contradiction...well, if I'm lucky:)

Aren't you making the same point that I made, that luck is a catch-all word that means whatever you want it to mean. Depends on the culture depends on the context, luck means something just happened or might happen or something you want to happen that you cannot explain the process of how you got to that point. So you call it luck.

Four or five hundred years ago in Europe and other places if you had the bad 'luck' of your cow going dry, or a child being stillborn, or your crop failing, you didn't blame luck. You went into the woods and found the old lady who lived by herself and accused her of Witchcraft and burned her at the stake. You didn't bother to come up with an intellectual concept to blame it on, your abysmal ignorance took it one step further. Every use of the word luck in any country at any time is rooted in ignorance. We now know why a well goes dry or a child is stillborn or a crop fails. Knowledge always wins out over luck every single time making the word irrelevant. If I lose in the casino it's because I don't know what I'm doing, blaming it on luck is a cop out.

Yes Spike, I was totally agreeing with you. I just thought it would be more engaging and funnier to say I disagreed and then make a bunch of corroborating statements that supported your argument.

Here's an old article you might like that I did for BJ-Insider.
    -----------------

    The Siafu Explanation

In an online discussion on why changing machines was pointless one person asked me this:

FORUM POSTER: “If they are getting tanked on a machine and decide to move, it is only an attempt to make a change to a negative pattern that has been occurring during that session(i.e = TIMING). Whats so wrong with changing machines?”

MY REPLY: Well first we need to define exactly what we/I mean by changing machines.

For me changing machines = moving from one identical machine (for instance FPDW) to another identical machine, because the first one hasn't returned well. Same game type, in the same casino, during a single outing.

Now we can answer your question, "So what's wrong with changing machines?"

In Cameroon, near the border with Nigeria an offshoot of the Bantu / Swahili tribe known as the Mofu-Wazan worship the Siafu, an army ant from the genus Dorylus. The Siafu People, as the Nigerians call them, yearly gather together all the men in their village to make a week long trek with the tribal elder to retrieve the sacred rain-stones from their mountain temple. Towards the end of the yearly dry period, they believe it is necessary to pray using the sacred stones to bring the yearly monsoon. It's a nice ceremony and I'm sure a very interesting hike up and down the mountain. Of course I think "we the enlightened" can all agree that praying to some sacred river stones and allowing some sacred ants to bite us, isn't really what brings the yearly rainy season for the Siafu people.

All that time they spent getting painted up and trekking around dangerous mountains, where there are frequent fatalities (god's sacrifice) could be spent gathering food during the lean times, and helping their women prepare for the coming rains...which would have come regardless what they did or didn't do, or what god they prayed to--and in this case, how they prayed to him. The Siafu People want to change the pattern of drought, one certainly can't blame them for that. Where one can find fault with their logic is in their choice of superstition over substance.

Time is precious and finite. Wasting time on pointless things that can't really influence the future is therefore a type of crime against nature--Especially if it diverts your attention/time away from things that could make a difference.

I was going to end this by correlating that true account of the Mofu-Wazan to video poker, but I think I'd rather you did that yourself.

If you wish more info watch, "NOVA-The Masters of the Killer Ants".

    Here's a clip:

P.S. I just found out in 2020 that I was part Bantu.

I'm not sure why you can't read it, but it's not about BJ. I use to write a column for "The BJ Insider Newsletter", but it was for all branches of pro-gambling, and I wrote about VP and progressive VP.

This is a "resolved" thread where all my questions were answered, and I'm now using it for all off-topic posts and chit-chat. I'm staying out of the baccarat discussions as promised, beyond this one thread, since it's the only place anyone even knows who I am.

Don't think of it as about baccarat or BJ, or VP...it's just for the folks I've been talking to for a long time.

Did you even read my reply? Asked and answered. In fact my entire reply was an explanation for why it was on the baccarat page. But I'll restate it to appease you.

Since my return to the forum I have mostly posted only on this page and while my reasons for this have been resolved, it remains the only part of the forum where people know me. I was responding to comments made by other people directed at me.

Are you asking me not to respond to DIRECT questions?

P.S. Your suggestion that I post something about Video Poker on the Black-Jack page degrades your credibility and unambiguously tells me you are not reading everything or taking anything I say in context.

I at least have the curtsy to read your entire comments, and try to reply to more than the first sentence...assuming the worst for whatever comes after.

Just an addendum. I do not require your agreement that my reasons for posting this here are valid or correct. I'd even be OK and or happy with you disagreeing with my opinion.

I take issue with a poorly constructed argument that I can't even contradict, or provide a counter argument, because it belies a total lack of contextual information.

Just do your due diligence and provide cogent criticism and we'll never have a problem.

    ~FK

P.S. Just block me. Seems like a good idea at this point. You already do...even if it's not official. You literally called me out on a first sentence "title" without reading the content. Not cool.

Your wasting your breath, until this forum does something constructive about disruptive posters that inevitably leads to hijacking of threads by the usual same posters then we will have to continue to read this crap, protest by not posting a response to them, it’s better than putting them on ignore
As I now seem to have become one of the silent majority and probably only post on the fun thread and movie thread. I’m just waiting for the next 270 odd days to fly past. Cheers

I don't see it that way. If I wanted agreement all the time I wouldn't be on an internet forum. Look how much good stuff came out of this thread, which directly correlated to people challenging me on why I was posting. It caused me to introspect and resolve (actually resolve) things I'd been stewing over for two-decades. For me that's a win-win.

That being said, when someone complains about why I'm posting in this thread when the thread is about why I'm posting in this thread, the irony becomes so deep one can no longer wade through it in galoshes.

When he asked me to move a post about VP to the BJ thread, he lost all credibility anyway. So I'm nonplussed this time.

Jimske was actually one of the people who's criticism helped me. So for this I thank him.
